Ahh the struggle is reeeeal. I only slept 3 hours due to some bullshit. And I’m honestly already over that because we both played our part. Buuuut, anyways, my attention span has always sucked 🤣 Im trying to do these trainings for work and its videos of listening to someone talk and yea I’m not an active listener so I’m failing these quizzes and having to redo them. 😂 I finally found a video transcript so I can just skim wtf they’re saying instead. And don’t even get me started on multitasking. I suuuuck. Yet never got caught up 🤷♀️ #FeelFreeToList

+1 yFor real, focusing when you're tired is the absolute worst. Props for even doing the trainings after only sleeping 3 hours, I woulda just slept through my shift or called out sick lol.
I feel you on having a short attention span too, listening to people talk forever is torture. Good idea finding the transcript to skim, way easier than actually paying attention the whole time. Multitasking is another struggle, I can barely handle one task at a time most days.
When I'm tired my brain just wants to zone out or do anything but what I'm supposed to be doing. Maybe see if you can break up the videos into shorter sections with breaks in between? Or play them at 1.5x speed so it's over quicker haha.
Snacks and caffeine sometimes help me focus too when I'm dragging ass. Just power through it however you can, hopefully your boss cuts you some slack since you're running on no sleep. You got this! Just take it one task at a time.

Surprisingly im wide awake. But i only watched vids for 30
Mins. Now i have to listen to the trainer talk and she keep
Callin on us since its only 2 of us lol - +1 y
Ah man that sucks, nothing worse than being put on the spot when you're just trying to chill! Props for powering through the videos even when tired though.
I hate when trainers call on people, so awkward. Hopefully she doesn't call on you too much. Maybe just mute your mic and pretend your internet is cutting out if she does lol.
Or you could try asking a question to shift the focus, even if it's kinda random. Just to buy yourself some time not on the spot. Still can't believe you're wide awake now after only 3 hours sleep! Are you drinking like 5 Red Bulls or something?
Anyway you got this, just zone out and daydream when she's talking to the other person. And take lots of bathroom breaks when you need a mental reset. You'll get through it, just hang in there! - +1 y
Pretend the internet cuttin out 😂 And no i think i was just pumped after speakin my mind this morn
- +1 y
Haha yeah the old "my internet is fucking up" trick is a classic when you don't wanna be put on the spot! 😂
And I feel you, nothing like getting a good vent off your chest to wake you up. That shit is so cathartic, I always feel hella refreshed after telling someone off.
The adrenaline must have kicked in too. Nothing powers you through the day like righteous anger, even on no sleep!
Just ride that wave as long as you can. Chug some water to keep the energy up and stare blankly at the screen nodding whenever she talks. You got this.
And way to speak your truth this morning, fuck what anyone else thinks! That's real shit right there. Proud of you for standing up for yourself, don't ever change. - +1 y
Thank you :)

You're welcome ☺️😌

For the most part, though, when I want to get something done - like a design project, building project, writing, or class assignment - I want to 1) get it done asap and 2) get it done right. So, once I am focused and in the zone, I can develop tunnel vision. Time disappears and I'm super efficient.
If I have to take a break, it's hard to get back in that zone again.
When it came to my job, I learned it by heart as quickly as possible. That way, I had to put in minimal effort to do the job perfectly and quickly. I had a friend who was a manager at my company once say that it didn't take him all day to do an 8 hour job.
I wanted to be able finish what needed to be done so that I could disappear without being noticed.
I also look ahead with an eye to making my life easier.
I would get my school studies done early so that I wouldn't have to worry about them.
At work, I would finish up everything possible by the end of day so that I wouldn't have a back log the next morning.
Again, all that is to give me as much free time as possible. I used to joke that work got in the way of my personal life.12 Reply- +1 y
I would definitely get my school work out of the way, but work hits different
Yeah there are so many different things in life that I put myself through that I say that I want to do and I want to learn but the attention span is just not there and I don't understand that
I can be on the job or I can be building something and I mean I'm the most detailed.
The most precise.
I see things coming at me 500 yards before I get to them and I'm taking care of them before I even get there and I love being that person I love doing that
It's the same thing with making love having sex the exact same thing I can see it feel it tasted touch it before it happens I know which direction I'm going to go everything's in fine fine detail
But if I was to take an online class to learn something it's like I'm just floating in the air I'm not concentrating I'm just not all the way focused I'm not all the way there and I don't understand I say I want to do it
But I just can't get in the zone I can't get in tune with it and that really messes my brain up because I like being good at everything LOL
For me there are just some things in life that I love more than others
There are some things that I want to be 100% into
and there are things that I just can't get into that I want to.
But I just don't get myself to do it and I don't understand why01 Reply- +1 y
Hot damn
+1 yOnly if the instruction is clear... because I am learning a new task and things are vague as fuck! "How about you go do djdbskdnfbdnbd..." and they leave and you can't ask them. They want things to go fast, but don't put in the time to properly show you the ropes. It gets hard to focus. Girslaskguys will help me kill the time!
02 Reply- +1 y
And rn the instructions are not clear. Im so lost in this training lol
- +1 y
Mine yesterday! So "one hour of training" a whole new process, new task, contracts.
Our tutor works from home. Okay fine, at least through screen sharing... O screen sharing magically won't work? Great, that's just great.
So we're going to show it on someone's laptop. Whose? That's right, it was mine! Goodbye plan to type down notes. Hello awful cat writing that's too slow to keep up! What a disaster that was.
But today I called the tutor and this time she could share the screen and this time I could peacefully write everything down. It was a good day!
I'm pretty good at focusing but only on one think at a time. If I tried listening to a podcast and reading at the same I'd only take one in. OK they are both verbal skills but it would be the same if it was a graph or some visual task.
At a time I did try to multi-task a lot more but I just did more thinks badly.

I hate reading but i rather read then hear someone lecture
Depends... I can definitely focus when I feel motivated, and am interested of course.. But usually I slack off immensely.. I would have liked to be well versed in Software engineering by now, enough to at least get an entry level job, but I've been slacking off so much it's not even funny.. Lol..

Dang dude
+1 ySchool, I can focus like Jackie Chan training a little black kid. Tasks, if I can do it I can do it. Work, I find myself being able to focus more at school and “get in the mood”/have fun while when I do it at home, it feels like homework which is weird

+1 yI've also been stressed out cause I had all these debts and my parents are on vacation and not able to help me out. I have friends and cousins that can bail me out but it goes against my principles to ask for hand outs when I'm not sick or desperate.
01 Reply- +1 y
Aww i get it
+1 yI work well under pressure is exactly that. I can put soo much effort into my work during the course of a week and by the end, I won’t be happy. Not until I’ve done it 2hrs before it’s due.

m +1 yAt work yeah, because I mostly like what I do. With school work I slacked off almost automatically, because there was so much uninteresting and/or complicated shit to learn... ugh...
02 Reply- +1 y
I actually enjoyed school
- +1 y
I did too, it was a great time. It's just that the subjects I didn't really want to learn made me goof off easily...
+1 yMy attention span is pretty much non existent. It's so hard for me to keep my focus on most things.

I can't focus on nothing but eye candy lol

+1 yIf I'm doing something, I can get a little obsessed. If I get distracted, I find it difficult to get back into the flow.
11 Reply- +1 y
I have to be doing something that interests me in order to stay focused
+1 yIf I'm getting paid my focus is razor sharp. But school? Ha. Other than getting paid there was nothing on this earth that could make me focus in school. Its a miracle I graduated with the level of apathy I had for that institution.

I am a hands on learner so I have to take notes and rewrite them to remember the stuff. If I take something apart that I have never seen before I can put it back together with no problem. Give me directions and I will screw it up every time. I am not visual or auditory. I have to be hands on.
I have ADHD so it's not my greatest strength unless I get hyperstimulated, in which case I can lose a day and forget to eat.
02 Reply- +1 y
Aww i see
- +1 y
I wasn't diagnosed until I was 40, so it's just a part of me. I do love finding stuff that hyperstimulates me though.
Was given concerta for it but apparently amphetamines make me aggressive. Who'd have thought a 220lb 6' tall guy with a short temper might not be the best candidate for prescribed crank? 🤣🤣🤣
At school I was quite good because I loved learning and we had structure but learning or working independently is impossible for me.

Absolutely not, I am bad at focusing, I get distracted way too easily.
I have to get in the zone to really focus and that rarely happens.02 Reply- +1 y
