What do you think of parents that tell their kids, "you can't do that, find a real job"?

I'm part of a fourm where some stupid parent keeps putting their beef with their kids on blast. For example "I broke my sons 1,000 subscriber play button and now he won't listen to me" or "I grounded my son from streaming and now he lost 1,000 subscribers"

Really stupid. My parents are great people and only wanted the best for me and my sisters but no family is prefect. I'm dyslexic and also the youngest child so I was never encouraged to do anything with my life because my family just thought I'd fail. I'd ask if I could do certain things but they never had enough money for me once my two oldest sisters had done there thing.

I was always that kid who change what they wanted to be every 5 seconds because my school and parents would see me fail and wouldn't encouraged me to carry on and if a teacher or family member did push me everyone else saw it as bullying.

I think my parents just wanted me to keep it simple so told me not to get my hopes up so I didn't get hurt.

I did abit of acting growing up but eventually because I had no one who believed in me my confidence went rock bottom even though that was the one thing I was good at.

I'm a very creative, imaginative person and I always wanted to tell stories from a young age but because I didn't have the ability to write them stories onto paper that was that for me. I'd try and tell stories from my art instead but I got no encouragement there either

I think its really important for parents to not let there children give up and to push them to become something they are good at or they could become a shift worker in a warehouse who hates there job.

Those parents don’t know how to be a parent and don’t know how to raise kids for future. they specially don’t know what future will be like for kids.

It's stupid if they're not letting them do it at all.

Instead, tell them to get a job and let them figure out how to manage their time to be able to do these "side gigs" or hobbies. That's what being a teenager and an adult my age is all about - learning how to balance out your life.

It's stupid because no1 is employing a 13yr old still in school, I didn't get my first job till I was 16 and allowed a bank account

Start preparing them to handle what life will throw at them. If they don’t do well with their academics, don’t force the issue. Let them be kids, guide them into adulthood. If need be, let them experience the justice system early.

Once that peer pressure begins, a parent needs to begin having an influence. What better time for the both of you to begin learning how to navigate the troubled seas ahead.

No. Not that the intent behind it is necessarily wrong, but they should probably be saying  "That won't sustain your lifestyle."  Actually telling the truth is vastly more important than simply giving orders.

Sound like great parents. Explaining there is a need to have a crafts/talents/skills that will be needed and sustainable over a whole lifetime, regardless of the irregularities of their lives, society and the economy in general.

I'm just going to be blunt about this. That's bad parenting. Trying to minimize, restrict or otherwise limit the options our kids have for their future is the exact opposite of what parents should be doing.

It sounds like they are ignorant to technology. Sure they should get an actual job while working on whatever side hustle. but I don’t like that they tried to take away they’re achievements. They earned those.

Well, A) subscribers can be a good source of revenue. So have a business plan ready next time. B) real world skills are still needed to get by. Learn how to sell, how to speak and write professional emails.
