How do you get the courage to try something you’ve always wanted to do?

Let’s say you get offered a job that you always wanted to try as a hobby, you already got offered that 3 times, but because you think you are not the best candidate, you just get excited about the offer but don’t pursue it any longer.

I have tried that in the past, and I do still get offered that, but I am scared I am not the best candidate and I always turn it down.

how do I do it? I don't always, but sometimes I do. I gotta feel good about it. I took a plunge and moved my whole life to be with my girlfriend, now wife. Frankly... I decided I was ready for a move, I trusted her to work it all out and just did it. The rest are small details.

I've staired at a big jump or dangerous crossing more than once and sometimes... I went for it. I'm still alive. One time... I decided... it wasn't worth it. It's gotta be worth it.

There is something in your personality and development that is holding you back if it is a repeating pattern. Study about human development and see where you are being held back as it is impacting your life. That's how trauma/development works. don't understand, then ask. It's not just what happens to you but how you perceive it that matters.

You could as example... daily examine that thing and practice doing it, seeing it in mind... building new pattern. But that is a layer ontop of possibly another wound.

if it was offered to you three times, it is because they must have a good reason to do so

you do have to try your very best though... you don't have to be the best candidate either, but you should always strive to do it better every time you get there again

Worrying about being the best when you haven't given a try will scare you away from many opportunities. Sometimes you have to take that situation heads on just for the sake of giving it a try. Delaying it in fear of perfection will just make you overthink it and scare you from actually giving it a try because " What If I mess up?". Sometimes you just got to go ahead and do it, how you perform , worry about that later.

Another reason could however also be the fact that you saw what the job entails more as a hobby you would enjoy. Sometimes turning our hobbies into jobs can make you dislike it so try thinking it out and discussing with your loved ones. Ask yourself two questions.

Q1: Is this what I truly want?

Q2: Is this just like a hobby to me or more than that?

So my advice is, talk about it with your friends and family. Someone will kick you strong enough :D

I learned my lesson and will at least try. The only thing I can regret is the lost chance.

You should go for it according to me, I know you feel you are not the right fit, but those people are offering you the job again and again so they might have seen something in you.
You want to do it so you should give it a try, the worst that could happen is that you were right and you were not the best candidate but least you tried and found out.
