Is it bad to lie about why you're quitting your job?

I know you don't owe your employer an explanation but when they insist on a story for why you're leaving and they see you like family, is it bad to just exaggerate the truth a bit to the point where its kind of a lie just so they will get off your back.

Typically, in cases where someone is leaving because of really negative / toxic treatment in the office they don’t fess up because they’re afraid of being somehow persecuted for it later (or burning a bridge they need later).


The problem? A place that’s toxic probably won’t recommend you anyway… why not complete a proper, honest exit interview?

Oh I definitely will give one but they want me to come back if my situation improves. So it's a job I can always come back to if things don't work out at the next job because of me stretching the truth a bit.

Ok, so... it's none of my business why you're actually leaving (so I'm not asking for details), but consider why you're leaving now... WOULD you come back if your situation improved? Wouldn't you just move on to. a better job?

Next, if you are considering a return, make sure the exit interview is VERY CLEAN, CLEAR, SIMPLE and friendly. Don't make any waves and end with a smile and a solid handshake, you'll be fine.

I think it's bad to lie about anything because when you lie that means you're not being yourself you're trying to be somebody else..

At the same time it's nobody's business..

And at the same time depending on the person they want to know the truth because they want to spread rumors so I think you should do what you're going to do it probably be the best that way you don't burn any Bridges in case you ever want your job back
