As a non-native speaker, what motivated you to take your English learning to the next level?

I got serious in 2011 when I realised that I wanted to enjoy Hollywood songs and movies.

I was just a good student in school and had this habit of reading books, newspaper, comics as a kid.
It just grew from there and I got a dictionary in 4th grade to improve my vocab. Used to just read dictionary as a hobby.
Later movies, songs etc made me more inclined and curious about it.

I played games, watches tv and listenes to music. Learned german the same way.

My English was so good, teachers didn't even bother with me.

And the only reason my grades werent straight As is because i was bored out of my mind with the lessons and couldnt be bothered with homework.

Kinda regret not going to a linguistic school but it is what it is

I learned 3 other languages before I had to learn English. And it wasn’t by choice. I couldn’t speak to other children in school and they sorta drained me mentally because they had questions I couldn’t even answer cause I didn’t know what they were saying.

Movies, video games and music, book. The original language is often times English. Also it is the standardized language for science publications and most of the internet is in English as well.

Movies have subtitles in my country, video games don't, so I think that is was video games.

Turkish girls don't look my face and I am talking with foreigners on virtual.
It is hard to trust but I have been talking with an American girl for month.

My native language is Italian. I am an Italian nationalist, I do not like Americans and the British. What motivated me to learn English was this: Know the enemy to protect your homeland.

I speak do speak English, but with all the people here in America that don’t speak English as well as I do, I did take up a second language that I speak fluently that’s profanity.🤣

I've just always enjoyed the language and I was/am a fan of English poetry like Raleigh, Byron and such.

@DrPepper12 because I've done a formation and i realized how clumsy i was (obstacle 1) so i asked to this pilot who was teaching us if being soooo clumsy was still compatible with the job and he just said ''dont worry your really pretty your going to get hired fast'' so i replied ''thank you for the compliment but beauty isn't going to save people if the plane drops'' but he was so obsessed with beauty i admit it turned me off... the flight attendant also told us about the importance of beauty so i wasn't really into all this arrogance and show off attitude (i love planes not showing off)... but i admit im still tempted to try it this job will always be in my heart i guess i will give it a try one day who knows hihi
