I'm working at this new place as an operator. I'm literally the only white woman on the floor and I'm 40. There suppose to be teaching me on there machines. And I speak only a little Spanish. What I'm finding is out of 4 men who have been training me only 1 was willing to train. I picked up a lot from him. The first on hesitated. The lead just picked a younger Hispanic gal to hang with and teach. And I mean he's 40 she's 18. He just started to treat me dumb like I didn't learn a thing. And this last one training me now isn't as good as English but he tried working with me for a day. Next day fist pumps the first shift lead who was suppose to train me. Then proceeded to exhibit the behavior of the first shift lead. Including not letting me practice what I know so I can get better. Watching me over basic operations I've been doing for the whole month I've been here. Not answering my questions. And yesterday started having a younger Hispanic gal do it for me. I hear a lot of Ella is vieja. Su es opin'ion is no importante. And yesterday in English. We have to watch out for our elders. I'm pretty good at working the machine for only working with it a month. I can problem shoot a lot of it's basic issues. Take it apart and put it together. It's a simpler machine then the one I'm use to. But I think there's a sexiest and racist issue. I've heard some of the bagger gals talk about me being Blanca. One gal did stand up for me and said it didn't matter. I had a similar issue at a MCDONALD'S a couple years back were the whole crew was Mexican and they would refer to me as a punta the second I walked threw the door.

Culture thing. Suggestions? Be highly respectful and genuine. The hispanic culture is all about these. Nail them and you are halfway to being happier on the job. Smile and break ice. Ask them about themselves. People like to talk and will if you listen and pay attention. Care. You're going to be working with them daily.
Ask even if they speak little English. You'll work it out through the effort.
Thank you. Someone in my workshop did say something. They handed me my own line. I was only bothered when I asked for help. The other operator stopped having the younger woman hold my line and started to teach me Spanish.
And by and by. The guy helping me on my line speaks really good English. But sometimes he doesn't get what I'm asking. So I asked him. Hey sometimes you don't get what I'm asking. I know some Spanish. Not a lot. If I had aked the last question like this. Is el dinero en la manana mucho? He liked that it didn't know how I knew that. He asked how I know that. Pretty cool
Oh, good. Beginnings are usually hard. I'm glad it's working out for you. Enjoy the job.
