I started working at a doggy day care today. The employer told me I wouldn’t work more than 4 days a week, and only 1-2 days of the weekend a month. I just saw the schedule she made for me, and not only was I scheduled for a 5 day week, but also she has me working more weekends than what was agreed.
When I asked her about it, she said it’s because it’s holiday season, but I also noticed the majority of the other employees are scheduled for way less hours than I was. So I’m guessing she just put me there to make up the hours.
Usually I’d just suck it up, but I’m feeling annoyed because the week this is happening my husband is going to be leaving for a trip that he will be gone for 2 months. And she has me working everyday in the evening so I’ll barely get time with him before he leaves.
I already asked if I could get a day off, because when I said yes to the offer I had agreed to 3-4 days a week. But now she’s changing it up saying it’s all due to holidays which I understand- it can be busy- but I also feel a little I don't know used.
I also am worried about saying anything more though because this is my first week! What should I do?

a lot of managers can't even comprehend the idea that you exist outside of work. like you're an npc that gets summoned to the doorstep when needed.
That being said, unfortunately if your manager is a jerk You can be reprimanded for not going in. The availability thing is more of a suggestion, but they don’t actually have to follow it.
Good news is it's generally not automatic for an employee to be fired for a single no call, no show. Most places will take a more gradual approach with increasing penalties for each day missed. It's up to you if you want to take the hit for it.
