How long should I wait before asking a coworker if they could take my shift again?

I’m trying to get my Friday shift covered. I asked some coworkers if they could possibly cover it for me. 2 of them said maybe and that they need to check out their schedules before saying yes.

that was 2 days ago. Should I hit them both up again asking if they figured it out? I don’t wanna be annoying but also don’t wanna wait until the last minute

From the start if you knew you needed off before the schedule was posted you should of talked to your employer first to see if they could accommodate you. In addition you did the right thing about talking to your coworkers about a schedule change & hopefully you talked to them face to face or over the phone because you would of got a response faster. Follow up with them however don’t get mad at them if they decline the change.

Family is coming into town and it was last minute so I didn’t have time to properly request it off. But we all trade and ask others to cover shifts for each other all the time
I wouldn’t get mad and completely understand if people say no.

I would try again either today or tomorrow. You need to know whether they can cover Friday and it's a good idea to let your employer know what is going on as soon as you can too.

You may want to sweeten the pot when you ask and tell them you'll cover their next Friday shift - some incentive?

Yeah I told them that I could trade with any of their shifts if they’d like

If they take more than 2 days to respond to something so important they probably have no intention of taking your shift and are hoping you will tell them you found somebody else so they do not have to look rude by denying your request.

The fact that they haven’t said anything could be your answer right there, but there’s no harm in checking in. Wait til tomorrow when the weekend is over.

Why do you need your shift covered? If you don’t have a good reason, don’t expect anyone to say yes.
