How hard would you say it is to get a job with good connections and with no known connections?

I work independently and am self employed so I do not have the office buddy network that others are rumoured to have, either in truth or in imagination.

I'm in a business network with a variety of other business owners from various backgrounds and we refer clients to each others businesses in our network. It's so much easier to have good connections that help out and refer you to other people. Work comes to us now and not the other way around

It is a pain in the ass to get a job without connections.

Knowing someone, especially in the area you work in, at the company you're applying to, almost always helps. They can not only put a good word in for you, they can give you info about the company that can help during an interview, as well as help you make a decision if you really want to work there.

Not knowing someone is not bad, it just means you have to do more homework about the company, and emphasize your strengths, why the company should hire you, during the interview. Something you should always do anyway.
