Have you ever been reduced in hours at work?

I recently went from doing 36 hrs per week to now about 11. They have just hired 4 new persons (all female, I’m the only male in my store) and the part timers are getting 10-11 hrs a week while the managers and key holders are getting way more.

Yep, my hours get reduced after a hiring wave too. Usually it’s not a big deal and I can correct it with a short conversation with my manager, but usually after a couple of weeks have gone by for training purposes and the new people are finding out if they like the job or not. My place of work has a fairly high turnover rate so it doesn’t take long for people to find out they hate the job and bail. That’s when it’s the easiest to get more hours, but most managers are understanding if you say you need a few more hours each week because this is your main source of income.

At the start of the COVID-19 pandemic I was reduced to 50% of my normal hours. The industry I work in relies on people being able to gather in large groups, so the fact that I had a job at all was a relief. It was enough of a reduction that I qualified for unemployment and the enhanced unemployment benefits that were passed in response to the pandemic. Without that unemployment I definitely would have had to seek a different job. I'm still with that company and I've had large enough raises to be making almost 75% more than pre-pandemic, so I'm glad unemployment allowed me to wait it out.

Contractually until I retire, switch positions, part ways from my employer or drop dead my hours can’t be reduced however contractually within set guidelines my hours can be increased during certain times or certain situations.

As for you if you were hired as a full time employee & your hours get cut fire for unemployment for the difference in hours. If you were hired as a part time employee you are SOL & all the part time employees within your company should all call off & send a nice message to your company.

No, I am still safe although a lot did and some got fired and that is something that I would much rather not talk about because it took a toll on me psychologically.

Yeah, a couple times but, once, it was because I needed to (my brother had just killed himself so I had to work half days so I could take care of mom after her stroke) and other tomes it was because I was being laid off.

Time to get a new job. I recently got my job duties reduced so basically my hours got cut because I have less work to do. I really don't give a shit because I have 2 jobs and was working too much.

I wish, usually it is the exact opposite lately.
We aren't supposed to work more than 48 without a day off.
After 96 it gets a bit old.
