It turns out that school vouchers are mostly unused because the actual costs of school attendance are not properly calculated, and as a result, most people with vouchers STILL cannot afford to send their kids to private schools.

I think school vouchers are one of the biggest scams ever put over on the public. Vouchers increase costs for taxpayers by requiring them to fund both public and private schools while, literally, taking funds away from public schools., Voucher programs can have a number of negative consequences for public schools, including: layoffs, program cuts, school closings, and lower student achievement. We, all of us, as a society, have a responsibility to ensure ALL of our children receive the best education possible. A good education is the great equalizer. It is the greatest gift we can give a child, and is, ultimately, the best thing for our society at large. There is nothing wrong with private schools, but let those parents who wish to send their children to a private school bear the brunt of the cost of doing that. No one has the right to educate their child to the detriment of any other child.

If the parents can't afford the school with vouchers then the vouchers would remain unused. It would be foolish of schools the price themselves above the vouchers when they could be receiving that money.

In locations where they have been used they've worked well in getting access to good education for children who otherwise would be stuck in failed public schools.

It depends on how it is implemented. The cost per year for students is really expensive. In the school system I used to work in they hired an attendance officer. I thought he was hired to catch kids that were skipping school. It turns out he really looked for kids that were going to school there that were not residents of the town. He paid for his position many times over in the course of a year. I cannot remember exactly what the per pupil expenditure was but it was a lot of money and this was over 20 years ago. I think it would pay for half the tuition to send your kids to a private school.

Another benefit is that school choice provides competition where before public schools had a monopoly on education and had no real incentive to provide a quality education.

Most cars don't work if you don't put oil in them. Just because we (the government) are too stupid to implement them at the correct rate of pay doesn't mean they don't work, it means another reason our "gummint" doesn't work.

The vouchers seem silly. Sounds like that means taxpayers would be part funding private schools. It's the worst form of socialism.

Also believe it or not it the Liberal elite& champagne socialists that send their kids to private schools, Conservatives home school. You really think liberals would send their kid's to the public schools they've run into the ground?
