LAS VEGAS, NV – A 12-year-old student tragically took her own life after enduring relentless bullying, according to her family. Flora Martinez, a sixth-grade student at Duane D. Keller Middle School, ended her life on May 7. The family claims that their plea to transfer Flora to another school was rejected by the local school district.

Flora’s mother, Alice Martinez, expressed her grief and frustration, stating that her daughter was “literally bullied to death.” The family holds the Clark County School District responsible, accusing them of failing to protect Flora. They allege that despite reporting the bullying to the school’s assistant principal, the harassment continued.

The bullying began at the start of the 2023-24 academic year and was so severe that Alice Martinez attempted to transfer Flora to another school. However, their request was allegedly denied by the Clark County School District in October 2023. The family claims that the bullying escalated, eventually leading to Flora’s untimely death.

In their grief, Flora’s parents have accused the school district of failing to keep their daughter safe. Alice Martinez believes that the district “failed miserably” and hopes that other parents take notice of their tragedy.

This devastating incident comes just two days after the suicide of 10-year-old Sammy Teusch, who also experienced severe bullying. Sammy’s family had reportedly raised concerns about the bullying nearly two dozen times before his tragic death.

These heartbreaking incidents shed light on the pressing issue of bullying in schools, highlighting the need for greater efforts to protect vulnerable students. The tragic loss of these young lives serves as a stark reminder that more must be done to create safe and inclusive learning environments for all students.

What would you do if this was your child? 😥
