Have you ever had a job where you were told you’re “too slow’ ?

I have been a night shift stocker at a grocery store for the past 2 months, since I’ve been there 3 guys have been fired or quit. This morning the store manager has been saying I’m too slow and if I want to stay employed there I have to speed up. I do the job and I show up, that’s all I can do right? No more than what’s asked of me. I mean hell I’m paid by the hour what do they fucking care as long as it’s done?

It all depends on the targets and what tasks are expected to complete by the end of the day.

If your manager has said you are too slow, then you need clarify with him, what he means by that.

If you are stocker at grocery store, they do expect to reasonable quick, because food gets turned over fast, with a lot of customers coming through the doors. If there is no food on the shelves, customers will complain. I have heard from people, they expect to unload so many cages in an hour. If you are not doing that, you are slow and get fired.

Doing your job and just showing up, is only 50% of job. The other 50% is all other qualities involved, your speed, quality of work, attitude. etc.

Once, a very long time ago. For that matter, it was my first job. I was a dish washer at an Italian restaurant and, because I was trying to do a really good job of it, it was taking me longer than expected to get the dishes done so, they fired me after just 2 days. I wouldn't want to eat off of dishes that weren't clean!

Yh could he a sign he doesn't like you much and is looking for excuses. Or it's a company agenda to recruit during busy times then find excuses to lay off. It could be truth... esp if you don't finish your section. I worked shelf stacking many many years. Aa long as you get your assigned section done you should be good. Or if you want to and can... try finish a little earlier (like ten mins) and help someone else. Or clean. If you value working there...

Basically yes.
Because they felt I was too slow and insecure in my work, they prolonged my internship (making me wait longer for employment).
They would rather have me be faster and make more mistakes.

After that I wasn't as insecure, cause I gave less of a fuck.

Oh yeah, driving job. I did my (incoming bad language for the marshmallows who have a problem with my thoughts) fucking best to satisfy this bitch. Never fast enough. I remember i told her i was taking my time because I saw some woman crash her car in the rain... she didn't say it but she didn't care. Speed was everything with that company. And my safety? No one gave a flyin' shit pie.

Oh and a cleaning job for a giant school who wanted me to clean precisely and quickly. :) I don't... i don't even answer their job posts anymore.

And man - it's always easy for others to say, so I'll say it "in the end, it's just a job - I could always find another one".
Now of course there's risks to that like short to medium term unemployment, minimal money unless one has built up savings, etc etc.
