To me being able to be focused, disciplined and consistently work hard on something is a talent too. People talk about hard work like everybody has the same amount of energy and the same ability to get up every morning and do things that take effort and are maybe unpleasant and you need to push yourself to keep going. It's clearly not true that everybody can do this to the same degree. I know that from my own experience.
But people just love the idea that some success is extremely well earned so they can disrespect other people who had it easier. People don't like the idea of someone just getting success easily. But the truth is every person who has managed to beat out every competitor and be at the top of some field was born with some kind of advantage. I'm not saying they already had it in the bag when they were born but they had an advantage over other people. It could be a genetic advantage, an advantage that they were born in the best environment to train for the specific thing that they would end up being great at or whatever it is, they weren't just average and became the best.
People just want to believe that they have the potential to be the greatest ever at something if they just keep going at it. But a lot of people are born just to be average.
You can disagree if you want to that's just how I see it.
I’m already talented and lazy so I feel like if I was untalented and hardworking I would get more done simply because I would do it
Well, I already know that I'm lazy so I just had to pick the first of the two options.
