Anonymous(45 Plus)5 moSometimes it's not that easy. Of course I'd rather work hard and have (everything I needed, not wanted). Time and experience has taught me it's a mean cold world. And sometimes you can try to plan for everything can think of and it's still not enough. I've learned to trust God a lot more over the past few years. as he continues to build me up. I'm not where I thought I'd be at this age. But I'm a lot better off than most. The point is I'm a lot less judgmental about those who need help. The only real problem i have with all this is the government waste that exists. If you recieve Medicaid for example the government tries to pay you to go to routine Doctor appts. I understand the thinking behind this. Preventative medicine is cheaper in the long run. The problem I have with it is the way they go about doing this. A person should already want to take care of themselves. Nothing in life is free. All the care you get will be debited to your estate when you die (assuming you die with assets, which most people do). So you should treat it just as though you were paying it directly. But Medicaid will actively pay you via a prepaid debit card to go to routine doctors appts. To encourage you to do what you should already do. This SHOULD NOT be!

Asker5 moMean cold world? What kind of mean cold world gives you free SNAP food and best free health care in the world when you are dead lazy and broke?
Opinion Owner5 moLike I said, "it's not that simple". The government is a broad sword, not a scalpel. And in every policy there will be winners and losers. And there will always be a segment that exploit the loopholes.
Asker5 moif you have done nothing in life and still get to eat 3 hot meals a day and get free best healthcare... there is nothing mean and cold about this world. I have no idea what you are talking about.
in other countries, if you can't make ends meet, you die. Nobody will save you. Nobody will pay for you either
Opinion Owner5 moThat does not surprise me. I suspect there's not a lot you do understand really.
Asker5 mooh I understand everything. I have been on both sides... living on snap to making a lot of money. The issue is that people tend to make bad decisions in life then blame it on bad luck or "its not their fault it happened to them"

5 moWell I would rather work hard because trust me people who are lazy are generally very miserable people. Being able to work and make your own money is oddly enough freedom. I can save and invest money. I can go out to eat or go do things or go on vacation….. and I can’t do that living on handouts.
Even if I won the lotto or someone gave me tons of money. I would still want to be doing something. Because I’m someone that wants to be making a difference. I think I would be miserable bumming. Sure…. Maybe it would be nice for a while take some time. But that’s me.

Work hard and have everything , every time.
It’s not about the money, it’s about self-respect and control over your life. Living off SNAP or handouts might meet basic needs, but it doesn’t give you freedom, confidence, or pride in your own effort.
Effort shapes more than your bank account , it shapes you.01 Reply

Asker5 moso you'd rather have nothing and have free time? thats a much lower standard of living
Asker5 motravel? joy of having children? a comfortable retirement? laundry detergent too expensive? only to be able to buy food that is on sale? not being able to just walk into a store and buy EVERYTHING you need? not being able to buy things you've always wanted like video games, nice clothes, nice shoes? when you go into financial trouble, you have no savings
Asker5 moyour landlord suddenly increased your rent by a couple of hundred dollars then now, you are very limited on what you can buy to eat.
- 5 mo
I can tell you have no clue how people make it so they can live on government. I can afford all that. Also council don't have rent like that plus benefits pays towards your rent therefore if it increases so does... said benefit towards it to even out.
Kids? Not that I want kids but you do know people get more benefits when they have kids? That people literally have kids just to get that?
If you actually understand how it works, you are in fact poorer working minimal wage in my country than being on Health benefits because then you have to pay rent, pay tax. Sure in theory you do make more but you personally have to spend half what you earn... and wouldn't ya know it I make half already by not working.
Since I've never worked and don't have any experience nor education, I can't get a 40K job and in reality that's what I would need to make working even worth it.
But even then wasting my years on working sounds pointless.
You know why someone wants to be a millionaire? So they never have to be forced to work. I already aren't so I've hit that point already. Sure I can't get a mansion but who cares? A mansion is not the real reason someone wants to be rich. They want to be so to have less worry about bills, and working... guess which of both I don't have?
Asker5 mo@kaneki05
the government isn't gonna pay for your vacation... neither are they gonna give you money to buy your kids some new clothes... SNAP is just for food.- 5 mo
That's cause you aren't understanding, first I am British and England has way better benefits.
But even in US they get other things than Snap to help them, otherwise it wouldn't explain how someone unemployed can afford a car right? To rent? Yet they do somehow and it's not by magic.
Asker5 mo@kaneki05
You don't get SNAP unless you have some sort of an income. My family was on SNAP when I was a young child.
Asker5 mo@kaneki05
1000 a month is nothing. Surviving on scraps
Asker5 mo@kaneki05
I make 1000 a week after paying all taxes and I still feel like I'm just scraping by. I live with family, no rent, only pay phone bill. Only thing I pay for is food, clothes, transportation. Food is so expensive nowadays. I pay about 300 for groceries a month. Another 300 for eating out.
Asker5 moclothes / shoes are probably another 300 per month. Gym membership is another 180 a month. Overall, my credit card bill is 1300 per month.
- 5 mo
That's you spending way too much. I know in US food prices are absurd to be fair but still I am certain you can bring it down. I spend about 20 a week, and only half of that is on actual food, cause one half is snacks and pop that realistically I don't need. Maybe spend 40 bucks get it down to 160 a month.
I never eat out unless I am going to a Gig but then I get cheap fast food.
And clothes... I can go months without buying any. I wear what I already have. And only get another pair of shoes when mine are worn which takes a few years. Nvm they won't be 300 shoes that's wild. Shoes are 50 at most.
So this is due to how you choose to spend. Without real bills you should be on solid ground with that kind of money.
Asker5 mo@kaneki05
I'm not interested in living off of tasteless boring old sandwiches or crappy tasting food. I want to eat out, good tasting food. Be able to buy the things that I want. Be able to take vacations when I feel like it. I want to look good too, thats why I want to buy nice clothes, look nice.
shoes 50 at most? shoes are 60-120 dollars here in the US.- 5 mo
Eh the pizza I get is cheap and great, same with my chicken bati's, I eat unhealthily and it tastes great for cheap, I wouldn't buy food or drinks I don't like. And I am sure it would actually be cheaper and healthy to make my own pizza but can't be bothered.
But yeah this be a spending problem you have wanting luxury brands or the higher costing things, going out to eat which is expensive and then wondering why you spending so much.
Frugal and savvy spending on necessary items, leaves me with plenty left to buy what I actually like.
If you value those things as something you actually like then nothing wrong with that but then it's obvious why you don't have any money for anything else.
Meanwhile I do because I don't do that and see no need in it.
Asker5 mo@kaneki05
high fat foods aren't always tasty. especially when you eat the same old fries and chicken burger over and over again, pizza every week, things get boring and tasteless.
but i rather live a life well lived than to live off of scraps and try to be content.
Asker5 moI don't like saving money. I like drinking the best, eating the best, dressing the best, going to nice places, going to spas,
- 5 mo
Always tastes good to me, plus you can use spices, sauces and switch up things but I digress.
That be the difference I don't try to be content, I am content.
The things you want wouldn't make me so at all, in fact do the opposite since myself see's it as wasting money. Simply different wants, even if I was super rich I wouldn't want that. I'd spend a bit more like having takeaways but really I wouldn't spend much differently to now on things I deem to be buying just to live.
Asker5 mo@kaneki05
You're content cuz you know you can't get anything better. If someone gave you 1000 a week, you wouldn't refuse.
Asker5 moFor you, you know living off of scraps for free is better than working minimum wage. This is the best you can get. You don't have the skills to make 2000 a week.
- 5 mo
Of course I would take 1000 a week if someone gave it to me? But that has nothing to do with my point. There isn't anything better, only you see that because you don't have the same wants as me.
It be like trying to tell me caviar is amazing that's why it's so expensive and you are missing out, meanwhile I am here like caviar is gross and waste of money.
Nothing will change my mind nor yours.
Asker5 mo@kaneki05
I understand why you say you are content. You are content based off the fact you are living the best version of a life of someone without any skills to make a better living
Not that you enjoy your life or that you are living your best life. You very well know you would like a better life but it's just out of your reach
For someone without skills or an education, this is the best you can get- 5 mo
Nope that's not it. Think your not understanding because you are envious that I am content and you aren't. Because you are having a real hard time understanding that people can have separate wants, and the only reason I could see for that is that you're upset that my wants make me content.
Asker5 mo@kaneki05
Nobody is encious of you. You say you are content cuz it's too embarrassing for you to admit you aren't content.
Asker5 mo@kaneki05
You can't have kids, you can't travel, you have no investments, no safety net, once the government shuts off your free food scraps you're ultra screwed, you eat shit food which you like to pretend is delicious, you can't have nice things, nice clothes, or car...
How is that kinda life nice at all?
You're just content in settling but if you were capable enough of earning 2000 a week, you would drop this cheap lifestyle in an instant.
I gotta admit... doing absolutely nothing and still being able to eat 3 hot meals a day, despite it being tasteless af, is still somewhat of a good deal- 5 mo
Why on earth would I pretend it tastes good? You know I can afford more expensive food right? I choose not to because I like the taste of what I am eating obviously. I could easily spend 300 on food I just don't lmao
Who say's I can't have nice things? My 4k high refresh monitor, Laptop, Steam deck, Xbox X all disagree with you.
Who say's I have no investments? I have several boxes of Tcgs such as Pokémon, Mtg that have tripled in price over the last year? In total I have about a 10k collection, and I keep building a bigger position because again I have a lot of disposable income, I don't waste it on what you do is that so hard to understand?
Asker5 mo@kaneki05
Because I'm not a dumb person. I know you're lying about being content and I know you have nothing.
You're just not willing to complain since this is the best you can get when you have no skills or education.
Asker5 mo@kaneki05
You need to realize that people who aren't minimum wage workers don't tend to be dumb. They're not easily lied to or tricked- 5 mo
The fact you think I am lying, and you being so confident in thinking that when I know myself isn't lying tells me you are.
Think what you want random anon but I don't care and certainly not enough to randomly lie to you. Funnily enough my life don't revolve around faking content to some rando online. But hey what would I know about my own life compared to you since you are super smart while I am just a dumb dude lying for no reason.
Other's people lack of logic hurts my brain, really does.
Asker5 mo@kaneki05
I'm not a dumb person. Thats why I'm so confident.
Asker5 mo@kaneki05
its not a life that you absolutely love but its the best you can get.
Anonymous(25-29)5 moLiving on SNAP is generally a survival based choice, often due to circumstances like disability, unemployment or low wages, designed to provide basic food security. While it reduces the pressure of high intensity work, it typically offers a lower standard of living and does not provide financial freedom or everything.

Asker5 morealize that nothing good comes for free in life. You don't get that 100k job by just sitting in your living room couch and watching tv eating chips. some people prefer to be lazy and survive bare minimum
I don't think one necessarily leads to the other.
People can work hard, and still end up in an unfortunate situation, and others can be born into wealth, allowing them to be as lazy as they want, and still succeed.

Asker5 moMost people who work hard don't end up broke
- 5 mo
Most don't, but some do. You never know what life is going to through at you.
One unexpected medical bill can destroy a person's finances, for example, and it may be difficult to recover, even working two or three jobs, especially if they have a family to support.
You can't make the assumption that someone in financial distress is automatically lazy.
Asker5 mo@orion84
Rare exceptions don't count. We are talking "generally speaking"- 5 mo
I wouldn't consider those exceptions rare, unfortunately.
Sure, they are less common, but there are hundreds of thousands of bankruptcy cases each year, just attributed to medical bills, alone. That only accounts for 62-67% of all bankruptcies.
Granted, some of those remaining 35-ish percent are businesses, but we're still talking about hundreds of thousands of people annually, and their families.
Then there's the people who worked hard in school, and accumulated $100,000 in student loan debt, but are having trouble getting hired, so they work three low paying jobs in the mean time. That's more hard work, and they're still massively in debt.
Asker5 mothey are rare exceptions.
the issue is that many people love overspending and have no idea how to manage their money.
just the same way millionaire celebrities go bankrupt.
Asker5 moits not about how much money you have, its how much you save.
- 5 mo
I actually agree with you, in that regard; a lot of people do have poor money management skills, but that has nothing to do with being lazy or hard working.
I would also argue that celebrities going broke is far more rare than a person's savings being wiped out by an unexpected expense, as well.
Asker5 mo@orion84
its very rare that you get an unexpected expense.
why would you go for a job that provides inadequate insurance in the first place? especially if you are older and in ill health, you should be striving to work with employers that provide better insurance.
why would you not get property insurance in case something bad happens to your house?
why would you spend so much on food deliveries or have 3-4 kids if you want to have enough of a savings to buffer through unexpected expenses?
what I have learned so far through MY life is that everything is a choice.
Asker5 mo@orion84
people who work hard are never on SNAP.
Those who are on SNAP tend to be white trash or hood rats. You will never find someone with a masters degree or a doctorate degree on food stamps. Its even hard to find someone with a bachelors degree on food stamps.
the 10% rare exception really does not represent for the remainder of the 90%
Asker5 mothere are consequences to buying that more expensive house, having that extra kid, getting guac at chipotle, ordering that food delivery, not investing that sum of money, buying a brand new car instead of a used one.
then you're complaining that you can't pay for an unexpected expense.
now we can see why...
