Would you say the first essay should get a score of 7.5 and the second can get a 7? Would you REJECT this scoring system?

Essay 1:

-An appropriate structure as advised by the examiners

-a thesis/ opinion stated clearly without ambiguity and contradiction

-a wide range of grammatical structures used accurately

-more than 3 complex and compound sentences

-a good vocabulary with many uncommon words used correctly

-most sentences grammatically accurate

-a good development of two different ideas in separate paragraphs

-relevant examples

-ideas well structured and coherent

Essay 2

-an ambiguous and incomplete introduction

-No thesis

-very few compound and complex sentences

-limited grammatical structures and more errors

-Not a rich vocabulary

-Ideas not well-developed. More extrapolation needed to support opinions

-Fewer examples that don’t support the arguments/opinions as well as the first candidate’s essay

-ideas presented haphazardly and very few cohesive devices used

I think if there was a FAIR and intelligent assessment, essay 2 would definitely get a 6 or 6.5 and essay 1 clearly deserves the score of 7.5. The above scoring criteria have been mentioned by the people organising the test.
