Should I be envious of my friend who does not work but gets to make content on YouTube?

Which is something she loves doing. I want to be able to quit my job and start my career full time in writing. I feel I hardly ever have the time to write because my job has me so tired after getting off.

She lives with her mom and is a single mom and though I know that's nothing to be truly envious of, I find myself longing for the stay at home mom/wife/writing career.

I honestly hate living paycheck to paycheck. It's agony not getting to do what I really want to do.

Although I like my job now, I would much rather spend my 8 hours writing away each day.

I'm not saying she doesn't work hard in what she does. Being a content creator on YouTube is a lot of hard work and being a mom on top of that is tough. I do wish I could have that lifestyle. I feel I would be more happy and content.

Man, I could really feel your pain and your desire by what you wrote.
Excluding the friend you are envious of you should reconsider being envious of her especially when there are people who are way better off than your friend. Like the single mom who wrote Harry Potter books in her kitchen after getting laid off from her job. She's someone to look up to and that could be you one day!!👍🏼🙂
Each day when we wake up and put our feet 🐾 on the floor, we have no idea what could happen to our lives that day. We could accidentally bump into a guy and fall in love. Huh?

There really isn’t a right or wrong approach to balancing your career with getting your writing, editing, and publishing done. I have a feeling that trying to find and strike that balance which doesn’t further exhaust you is all you can do. I suppose the biggest and most difficult part is taking that first step. Beginning the journey, so to speak.


As for your YouTubing friend, I have a few friends who do it as well. I think it is mostly as a side gig sort of thing. I know one wants me to do a pod-cast with him regarding the work we do and ai will likely have a couple of the owners on as well from one of the products we carry. I have done a number of pod-cast over the years surrounding my industry. Me sitting there shooting the shit is the easy part. Them doing all the editing and whatnot is the tedium of doing YouTube as I understand it. Then constantly coming up with new ideas to keep your audiences engaged is the other task unless your content becomes one of those showing lots of skin and playing video games to feed the over saturated supply of thirsty individuals online. Which incidentally end up giving fodder to certain mens’ channels. It’s a vicious circle. But I digress …

Right. I wouldn't want to do that at all. Being a YouTube content creator is exhausting. I tried it and it's not easy. You almost have to do that full time.

Not at all , be happy for your friend and focus on your well being , if you enjoy writing and writing is your passion , then start writing , even if you only write 1 or 2 days a week or a hour or 2 a day, but start writing , don’t let your job interfere with your passion , if your job is overwhelming, then start looking for another job that can give you more time to write , but for now , start writing even if it’s 1 day a week , I am pursuing my passion of brewing beer and I wish I could quit my day job to put more time into the brewery , but unfortunately I don’t have that luxury right now , but I still find time to brew and make time for it , I also have my brother and best friend that is my partners’ and all 3 of us work full time jobs but we all do our part when we have free time. Hoping one day we can quit our day jobs and brew beer as our full time job 😊

No. Envy is sin, for one thing. For another, building a YouTube or social media presence takes a lot of time and effort. You'd have to constantly put out content, build an audience, get noticed... it just sounds like a nightmare.

As for writing? You can still do it. It might just take a while to get something done. There's podcaster I listen to every so often who recently had his first novel published. He said it took him 13 years to do it. It's probably just something that you have to chip away at little by little until you have a complete product.

You do not need to write 8 hours a day. I used to work full time and go to college at night. The classes were 3 hours long. It was manageable.

I never said she didn't work hard. I'm saying living with her mom and being a single mom is not anything to be envious of, not her career as a content creator. That takes a lot of work. And being a mom on top of that takes a lot of hard work. I really do wish I could have that lifestyle.

I started trading bitcion and once you get it down its not that hard. I made 7g in 2 trades and it only took 5 minutes. As of currently I have 16g that I made in 2 weeks. If this keeps going im quitting my job very soon. I should have 40g in 2 weeks. I never thought coinbase was a real thing but I did change my mind on it now.
