Getting a second job?

I genuinely don't know and have never been in that position before. But if you were looking for a second job, would you need to ask permission from your current job?
I work part time - mornings only. Signed a contract. The rest of my time I take on freelance work, but it's never been my goal to do any freelance work. I like the amount of money I get monthly, to be the same; not dependent on whether I've had enough freelance projects on the side. So I'm thinking of getting another job.

Well, as it turns out, my boss asked me what I'd need to stay full time. So that's the new negotiation in the works. Yay!

I’ve had 2 jobs before and you just have to communicate with each of your jobs. No one has a say on how many jobs you have, this is your life and your days off. Jobs are also usually very flexible, but when you apply to the new job, just let them know what days you usually work at your other job and they will decide if the days you are available will work for them. After that you can simply just check your schedules and make sure they don’t overlap, which they usually don’t because your manager usually either keeps them the same or knows what days you’re available, but if they do overlap you just simply tell them you are working at your other job on a certain day. Many people have two jobs, jobs are understanding.

You don’t ask permission from one job to get another job, you just make sure your scheduling and availability is set in stone. After that you’ll have a solid idea of what your schedule at your second job can look like. I had a second job as an assistant mail carrier for a while, good gig. $20 an hour, one day a week. The only sucky part was that one day could last up to 12 hours depending on the volume of packages we were delivering but it was good money

I don't think the first job has any say on you taking on a second job as long as they don't interfere with each other or affect your work in either.

Good for you. You probably did your career a lot of good as taking an honourable cause to your employer who sees potential in you.

I have actually done this very thing with 2 jobs as a teacher where the schools here only cater to either 16-18 year olds or 12-16 and my training is for the full range. So I found two part time roles at different schools and got the principal and course leader to negotiate and make a schedule out that worked for both schools. It worked ok for a few years BUT the principal took this as an alternative to a pay rise and screwed me over so now I have gotten out of that arrangement about to start a new role in a different country.

For me, second job was worse than the first one, but my third job was better than the first two.
