Schools should be able to provide everything from paintbrushes to instruments to computers and all in between.

Teachers are underpaid and having them search for school supplies (especially in this economy) is like a slap to the face. If you aren’t going to provide these teachers with the resources they can adequately teach with then at least give them more than enough wages to uplift the student body without breaking the bank.

A desk, books, a note pad a few pencils. That's about all it takes to learn the material. Giving students more and more paraphernalia isn't going to make them learn if they don't want to or they can't. At some point you just have to face reality and say this kid is too screwed up or he's just to dumb to learn this stuff and ship him to special ed.

Everything that can give you an advantage for your grades should be provided. Including those supplies, that make it easier to attend schools in full capabilities like meals and transportation. Otherwise money buys grades and that should be prevented.

Anything that, via a confidential means test, shows that the student's family cannot easily afford those ietms. If the student's parents own a $2M home and have a mid-six figure income, they do not need pencils and other supplies given to them for free. If mom or dad is working two jobs and rent still sucks up 50%+ of the family's net income, those people deserve help.

Lunches should be supplied by the students or if there is a cafeteria students should pay a nominal fee for lunch.

schools should supply all paper, pens and pencils, as well as text books and other related items.

I worked for a K-12 school system and before I started my previous place of employment gave me a going away party. I got a gift card for Office Max. It was a good gift because the school system could not even supply me with a desk calendar.
