Long story short. I left my previous job because of no professional growth. I applied for Manager roles twice and both times was turned down with silly reasons, so I left. I am now in this job that I like very much and was promoted very quickly. Now I work closely with General Manager and we have a great rapport. He has supported me, helped me and over all the growth is thanks to him. But. There is a female accountant that also works closely with my Manager, and lately she is making sure jobs where I have to interact with manager or can show my skills are done by her. Latest one I overheard where he said- I will ask *Kate* (not my real name) to do it. Female account jumps in and says - I can do it! Bear in mind job wasn’t account related. I do not know the level of their relationship but she is always around him. I know he has long term g/f but lady from accounts is around him Hell of a lot. So I am not sure on true level of their relationship. Anyhow. I feel like she will try to keep me away from any further growth. I know they have been working together for longer years than I, but you know how in new job you want to prove yourself. I don’t know if there is some sort of professional jealousy going on or something else. To be fair my job isn’t even that involved with accounts just with my manager, but yet I feel like I somehow stepped in her ‘zone’…and there is jealousy…

It sounds like you're in a complex situation. Maintaining your focus on your work performance, communication, and relationship with your General Manager is crucial. Establish clear boundaries and, when appropriate, express your interest in tasks relevant to your role. It may help to have a candid conversation with your manager, seeking feedback on your performance and expressing your eagerness for growth. This can reaffirm your dedication and place you in a favorable position. Keep interactions professional and focus on collaboration rather than competition. This approach demonstrates your commitment and fosters a positive work environment.
