Why do people think trades are for stupid people?

Do they really believe working an office job is more difficult than being a mechanic.

Shift in supply and demand. Most people use to work in trades or factories so the supply was high and pay was lower when compared to college educated white collar workers who were more rare. As the industrial base was dismantled, there was more wage pressure and job insecurity on blue collar workers making it a dead end field for people that didn't see what was going on. Many retrained and then the economy was shifted to supply more college educated workers which lead to lower salaries for college educated workers as they competed for employment. As skill sets in the blue collar jobs were depleted, there was more demand for blue collar workers demanding higher salaries and the economy was inverted. Most people aren't smart enough to catch on to what happened...

It may have been like that 50 years ago. Today working in the trades is a lot more technical and college graduates are lot stupider.

I saw a story that Ford can't find 5,000 mechanics for $120,000. I had no idea it paid that much. I would never be able to do that, but it was interesting to find out.

People think this because people in the trades typically do not go to college, or if they do, it's only for two years. Being good at a trade and making money is an admirable thing, but it is not indicative of intelligence at all.

Not in my country. Only 30-40% of our highschool graduates are qualified for university studies in the first place.

I know plenty of people who became millionaires because they worked in the trades and got a contractor's license, then became their own boss and were successful businessmen
