Was this a targeted attack due to jealousy?

There was an extremely popular and funny U of T student who had executive positions in and was a regular member in 8 athletic and mainstream clubs at school and he was murdered in a gun shooting by an unknown assailant or group of killers.

I know another guy who won academic awards for being the top volunteer at school, meaning, he volunteered more hours than anyone else in the entire university.

Was this a targeted attack due to jealousy?
