I've had minor successes in mine but, my life has NOT turned out very close at all to how I'd hoped it'd be!!
I always wanted to work in a record store, a radio station, a record distributors, a record pressing plant, join a rock band and become rich and famous with girl chasing me and trying to get into my underwear, and I'd hoped I'd stay in the house where I was born to live out the rest of my days.
So far, it's become more like how Andy Partridge put it, "We wanted to be rich and famous with girls chasing us everywhere and we'd get beer in the dressing rooms... well, we got the beer in the dressing rooms...".
Nobody at any record stores would ever hire me, even though I was friends with all of the managers and employees, because they thought I'd be bored because I knew too much about records! The only record store gigs I got was working 10 hours a month (5 hours every other Sunday) at a used record store cleaning records and helping customers in the country/western, novelty/comedy, sound effects and classical music section where hardly anybody ever went! That lasted 4 or 5 months. While nursing a fractured leg, I got another record store to hire me to price used albums. That lasted 2 days. About 30 years later, a used book store that decided to start dealing in records hired me for 5 hours a week on Sundays to clean and price used albums. That lasted 5 days!!
There were 2 record distributors in town and I didn't know it `til shortly before each of them closed up! There were no record pressing plants closer than a 3 or 4 hour drive from here. I almost got a radio show playing oldies but they decided to cancel the show before I even got it.
Underground stations always found an excuse not to hire me, even when it was voluntary!!
I finally got myself into a band and we got SOME local fame but, every time we'd start making waves towards the big time, something always happened to fuck us over and we'd have to start all over again!!
The only other "success" I've got is helping 5 other people write books they were working on and I did voice acting in a couple very low-budget movies.
Oh! And, thanks to my greedy ex-sisters, I lost the house that my mother didn't want sold and wanted me to stay in to keep it in the family!!
