Have you ever been fired from your job, and do you feel the reason given was justfied?

I was laid off due to downsizing.

I knew at the time that it was a mistake. Corporate management came down with a demand that each department reduce its headcount by 10%. In my department, that was 3 people. As luck would have it, both my boss and the department head were out of town on business and couldn't be reached, so the decision on who to lay off was left to the division Vice President (I'll call him John), who knew very little about my department and its personnel.

The company was in the process of moving to a new building and three of us, who had just finished a project on time and within budget, were coordinating that move. That meant that we were charging all our time to overhead, while others in the department were charging customer contracts, most of them way over budget and late. Without anything better to use, overhead is what John used to determine who was vulnerable. He laid the three of us off, not knowing that we were productive employees and in fact doing required work for the move. When my boss got back a few days later, she tried to correct things but it was too late. She even called me at home and apologized for what had happened.

Two years later, I returned to my old job, with VP John interviewing me, and apologizing for what he had done.

Yes, My very first job after med tech training. The year is 1972. I was called to the ER to draw a specimen on an icteric newborn who was obviously Yellow. The sooner the results were in, the sooner the child could be put under a UV light. I collected the specimen and went to the lab to run the Bilirubin. My controls were in but just barely which made me question my results. I took the time to make new reagents and run it again. Same results so I reported the bilirubin at 11.4mg/100ml. The physician was not happy with the wait. So, I was let go. Lesson learned? If your controls are in the 2 SD range? Report. The next Day the test was repeated by the Day Shift and the results were comparable. Yes, after 40 years in Clinical Pathology, Anatomic Pathology and Surgical Pathology I have to agree with the Lab Director.

I have not. I have had the same summer job for years and have a pretty lame one with minimal hours at school.

Fortunately, I have not experienced being fired from a job. My focus has always been on doing my best and contributing positively to any organization I work with. If such a situation were to occur, I would reflect on the reasons given and see it as an opportunity to learn and grow. Whether justified or not, understanding any situation deeply and using it as a stepping stone can lead to personal and professional improvement.

I haven't been fired but have been laid off before.
I could have been fired at my current job because one director in the company (who got demoted himself) personally hated me and blamed me for a lot of project issues that were out of my control, but they can't get rid of me because I am "the guy" who is the only one holding some projects together and understands what to do and how to do it.

That's a good position to be in because you can control your own destiny there.

I have been fired, for good reasons and for bad reasons. When i deserved it, i set out to find a new job with new expectations. When i didn’t, i collected unemployment until i could find a new job. It’s not much, but it’s better than nothing when the budget is tight.

I was once but the owner came to their senses and apologized for losing their cool. Damage was already done though and I had a new job in a week or so.

A few times. In most cases it was a legit reason, in a few it was not or at least very knit-picky or, the reason they gave wasn't the real reason!!

Sure, honey, and yes, of course. If you miss more than a few days that are not reasonable, you can get fired and thrown over board. hahaha

Nope but I had a manager ask me to do different stuff as I was no good at things. I was good at certain things though so I was asked to specialise.
