Have you ever been rightfully fired from a job? What happened?

In the 1980's the Police Department of Burlington VT while represented by a union, the union could not represent a 'probationary' (aka 1 yr new hire) officer until AFTER that first year... until that period, you COULD be terminated WITHOUT CAUSE, literally if for one morning your superiors didn't like your eye color without recourse. 11 months into my probationary year I was summoned to a meeting with the titular Chief and his ACTUAL Deputy Chief Donny Davis. Ours was the 33rd BRC at the Pittsford State Police Academy... the FIRST comprised of largely college-degreed officers. I had been in the top fifth graduating that class. Neither of my Training Officers had any issue with my performance; the Chittenden County States Attorney had never had to plead down ANY of my arrests. The Deputy Chief Davis silently pushed a hand-written note acrossed the meeting desk which read: "Resign or I will find a reason to terminate you" ... if so terminated, my police certification would be worthless. ALL VT's police chiefs met monthly at the academy and discussed business ORALLY; if 'black balled' you could not be hired in any municipality in the state.
I was forced to move to the private sector.
The only time I was fired personally, it was because my feminist-lesbian boss got upset that I had helped other departments get things done that I wasn't hired for - things that saved a big project - because she didn't want HER employee doing things for other departments. To be clear, she assigned me maybe 6 hours of work a week, despite my full-time schedule, and I regularly asked her for more tasks, and she eventually told me to just hang out in my little office until she had something else for me to do.
I ended up helping soldering some computer boards to help out the techs whose job that was, and they were way behind because those boards were supposed to have been built by a subcontractor who never did it, and their contract eventually got canceled and the work brought back in-house. It helped the company make a big deadline - but I had crossed my boss, and she wasn't going to allow that.
Oh well - I found a better job about 2 weeks later making more money and much more to my interests, so it was fine.
In Germany, during the probation period (the first six months of work), we have 2 weeks notice period and can be fired without any meaningful reason.
I was fired 2 weeks before Christmas on the fifth month of my probation. Why? Because they didn't have tasks for me... I knew it would happen sooner or later, but the free time I had at this work, I used to learn a new technology. When they fired me, I found a new job where I could work with this new technology and develop my skills further.
so no regrets, lol
Yes, because my lack of manual dexterity made it too hard for me to perform my duties.
I hav never been fired from any job except once when i worked at a pizza place n girlfriend of my boss didn't like me n coz of her i was fired...

I've only been fired once and it was working at a tool consignment shop. Which is kinda like a thrift store for tools.
The guy asked me to pass him a ruler, only there wasn't one in the pile, so I'm passing him all these different measuring devices like "you mean this? You mean that?"
And he'd be like "No! The ruler, the ruler!"
Then the only thing left was a tape measure and I'm like "you mean this! The tape measure!!!"
Lol
Guy went out of business a few months later.
I suppose I've been fired once or thrice but only because I was a bit late a few times to many but, that can't be helped when you depend on buses to get you where you need to go. You have to HOPE they show up on time, if at all! And that there's no fuck-ups along the way to delay your arrival. Other than that, I've only ever quit, or been let go because it was only a temp, seasonal or one day only job or because they couldn't afford to pay me, anymore or because the company moved too far away for me to be able to get to, anymore. In the case of the band, it was because we broke up.
Uh yes but also no.
I got fired because I missed a day where I was the only one supposed to be there and I forgot I worked that day. But they also had me on a weird schedule that I swear they were making up day by day. Every week was different days and hours and there was no consistency and it also changed mid week sometimes it was ridiculous trying to keep up with all the changes all the time.
So I missed a day thinking that I didn't need to go in until the next day because had basically changed the schedule mid week. But I didn't make a big deal out of it or anything I was getting ready to quit the job anyway to move on to something better so it worked out.
No I have never been fired but when I was 14 I worked a day and the guy found out that I was too young to work and I was a dishwasher so then I had to go. I was glad anyway because I hated that job exhausting and it took too much of my time up, and I was interested in sports, not being a dishwasher but I guess they take young kids like that and they make them do this low man on the totem pole work. I did a good job but there’s no reward in being a dishwasher getting paid minimum wage and you don’t get any brakes either
Yes I didn´t do the job I was told correctly. I was supposed to translate a business plan from German into English. I was in a probation period and it was an important report but I didn´t meet the deadline. I got fired because I had not much to do besides that. The company is a high prestige tax consultant it wasn´t a small business.
I actually just got fired for the first time earlier this month. I missed 4 days of work from being sick and had a note. It's weird because they bought out my temp contract the month before.
Oh well, and yes it would be rightfully since this is a right to work state.
Yes, when I was a teenager I decided to call off and go to the beach with friends and said I was too sick to go in to work. One of my managers was there and saw me and I was rightfully fired as a result. I learned my lesson, schedule days off in advance and use sick-days appropriately.
I guess so. Twice. First time, I clearly wasn't up to the tasks and I hadn't lied about my skillset, the hirer just learnt a lot more about the role itself and I was the unlucky duck I suppose debatable so yeah, they let me go and history is history. No grudges. Second job (remember these weren't my first ever jobs) my contract expires and was not renewed so I was essentially, fired I guess? Ah well. Guess I couldn't meet the targets for efficiency🤕. Lol
Not fired, but I once worked an office job where I had a formal disciplinary meeting because, apparently, my hands and eyes weren’t moving enough to be working! 😂 I literally burst out laughing and that was recorded in the meeting notes too. Funny thing is I was actually good at that job, but everyone used to complain about how poorly things were managed. This was many years ago now, but it still makes me chuckle to this day! 😂
Geeze, I imagine them taking notes while watching you on camera and going. Nope, nope, not yet.
Speaking of chuckle, I was applying for a managerial position, and was on 3 months probation where they sus out whether you are fit for the job, and I got called in by HR for the 2 month evaluation. She said to me, this is good, that's good, excellent on this, but there is one issue. Confused, I leaned in, only to be told, SHE thought I was "too nice" with the staff. I was pretty sure flogging staff was off the table in my job description, so asking staff to do things, not barking orders at them like they were two years old, and managing "somehow" to get the job done was apparently bad managing. I did not change my managing style, worked there for another 6 years. Managers don't have to be a-holes, imagine that.
When I was younger I always instinctively thought that managers and ‘top people’ were always right and knew what they were doing… and as I’ve got older, I’ve realised they’re just people and sometimes you get bad managers and bad people who don’t always know what they’re doing! 😂 You’re right, a good manager can be a very decent, fair and reasonable person, yes.
My favorite firing was for a job where I was fired for and I quote "you don't socialize with us after work. You come in you work doing far more than your job description and then you go home as soon as work is done" I was laughing so hard
I worked for a place for 7 weeks. I was suddenly fired. They never really told me why. By their own admission I did everything that was asked of me and also I never came in late and never left early/ . They gave me a cell phone and I used to put in on the charger and not look at it until the next day. I think that pissed them offf.
Knock on wood I have never been fired from a job. As for me when it comes to a job I have always left on good terms just in case things didn’t work out with my new employer & I had to return to the old employer.
I have only ever been fired once.. And it was a " lay off" where they were downsizing.. Here is the sad thing literally a week later they had several illegals covering the positions that were let go... So I called immigration and had them raided.
Suddenly they are calling me, begging me to come back a few days later. I told them to fuck off.
Once when young first job. I got lazy and he disny need me.
I wss wrongdully fired ince and was painful stress. Maybe rightfully fired but done wrong and I suffered
Fired: not as in gotten kicked out because I did wrong.
Terminated: a few times.
Mostly, because my superiours felt inferiour (which indeed was the case).
They had the (legal) right to do so; so it was doubly rightfully :)
I have walked off of a job once because an African American male who was recently hired pulled the cliché call his black card. It's a common occurrence in the USA where a black man pretends or makes up a fake act of discrimination in order to get ahead. It's the reason why racism exists here and right now they are getting away with just about everything without any legal action taken. This is because if police get involved they get put in prison. The true result of Black Lives Matter.
I was bragging too much. Bragging about what a cake I have and how I love to eat it.
Perhaps not a workplace appropriate cake pop lol 🎂🍰 anyways.
Yeah, they just weren’t able to work with the new hours I was able to work whilst handling school and my, at the time, poor mental health.
Yes. I asked my boss lady if the fuckin checks are ready yet bitch. She called the cops as I was drunk and angry. I had to have my baby put to sleep and Ginger had been shitty for 3 months toward me for calling in sick then showing up at her bar.
Yes, I was a software contractor at Southwest Airlines and the commute was a PITA. I was late one too many times to a pointless morning meeting.
When i was in my training whit rayanair we was have flight from Poland to Paris i was super drunk so flight get deleted and they fired me i next morning
nope. but i've seen it happen and damn it is wild
So far, I have only quitted. I have never been fired.
No, but I have walked out on a couple.
nope. he only way i lost jobs was through ending temp work contracts, which is fairly normaly in my line of work.
I quit but my supervisor got fired after I quit, I kinda knew i was carrying that company tho 😂
I have quit a few jobs. I have never been fired though.
Yes.. I was bored so I hid in the changing room all day. (I worked at a clothing store).
I wanted to take off to go to Six Flags with some friends, they wouldn't let me so I went anyways, fired
I asked my dad has he ever fired someone on the spot. He said "fucking sure I have".
I irresponsibly took off work to chase after a woman I thought I couldn’t live without. So, my boss told me not to bother coming back to work for her.
OH SURE SEVERAL TIMES
No but, I’ve been pushed out 😢😭😂
no
never haappened
Most of my terminations were wrongful
Not yet but I’m not far behind
Nope, I've always quit
I do not work for anyone.
Yes, got a better job
Nope
