Would my boss, and co workers have a reason to lie about my performance?

I started working at McDonald's a week ago. We got slammed today. I was making a lot of mistakes, and was just slow, and overwhelmed. My boss seemed frustrated. I pulled him aside, and apologized. I said that I know im slow, and I just get overwhelmed easily. He said not to apologize and that he doesn't expect anymore from someone as new as I am, and that when I feel overwhelmed, to just let him know. After my shift, i was just like "im glad I could provide the help I did" because they let me go home early, because I wasn't even supposed to work today. My boss was like "you did an excellent job today!". My court worker who rarely compliments me said that I did a really good job today. I don't know, like I said, I feel like I just completely suck at my job, and like they are just bull shitting me.

You only started a week ago. I've done restaurant work. There is no way you could be up to speed in that time. Your boss knows that. Your co-workers said you did a good job also.

Give yourself time and have confidence in yourself. Busy time at a restaurant is about muscle memory. After a while you do it automatically without thinking. But you can't be expected to do that in a week. You are just fine.

Bro... even a perfectionist fucks up. They're just happy you didn't puss out and left them all hanging when shit got tough. If you don't know what I'm talking about, just work that job until you know what I'm talking about. You'll see them... weak souls that will punish everyone on your team and quit just because things get tough once in a while. Even alcoholics hate quitters. Nobody likes them. That was sort of a joke, but you'll get it eventually even if you don't get it now.

You didn't quit or needed a safe space... One day, you'll understand exactly what they seen in you that day. You did the job and didn't puss out or just make the job harder for everyone else. It may be McDonalds and not overseas at war like when I was fresh... but it's still respectable shit. You're learning. We all learn the same shit one way or another.

In my experience coaching new workers, especially in fast food, your day sounds completely normal for week one.

Two points:

1. You are judging yourself by *experienced-worker* standards. They’re judging you by *new-hire* standards: showing up, trying hard, taking feedback, staying calm (ish) under pressure.

2. They gain nothing by lying. In a slammed shift, extra bodies who keep trying—despite mistakes—are genuinely helpful.

Take their praise at face value, ask for specific feedback next shift, and give yourself 2–4 weeks before re‑evaluating your performance.
