How do you stay motivated to finish a long, tedious task you really want done?

I bought a Chinese book online last year and wanted to use technology to translate it into North American English because I do not read Chinese, and then because I was new to this translating stuff, the process of translating 180 pages to English took so long I could never find the motivation to continue.

Today I wanted to do 40 pages, and it took around 30 minutes to do 3 pages and I lost the motivation because I knew I had another 157 pages to do. (Yes I already did the first 20 pages along with today's 3 pages).

Now that I am no longer in University, doing things I do not like is usually optional. In University, if you do not do something because it is boring or unpleasant, you could fail your class and lose your career forever, but outside of university, tedious chores like this are optional.
