    Yes.
In 10th grade, I got a job at a small fast food place that sold hard tacos, burritos, tostadas, hot dogs and chili dogs.
I was really good at working the drive through and front windows by myself. I made change like a pro. I was good at making up orders, wrapping, bagging and serving them. I hustled. And customers liked me. But the older high school guys who worked there didn't like me for some reason. I figured is was because they saw me as a punk kid.

I think I was being too generous with the servings and nobody at the place ever told me. Also, when you weren't busy with customers, you were supposed to run around and wipe down all the stainless steel stuff. I never did that because nobody told me to.

One day, the boss came in and said he didn't need me anymore. I was glad, said "Thanks" and cheerfully walked out.

After that, while still in high school, I got a job stocking shelves at a department store for federal employees. I soon became my supervisor's favorite. She was a nice, middle aged lady. I hustled like crazy and volunteered for anything. I got along with the other employees, too.
I had long hair and smoked weed whenever I got the chance.
I worked there for a couple of years.
The manager of the place decided he didn't like me for some reason. One thing he said was that I often clocked in late, even though it was never more that a few minutes late. But I never did anything to get in trouble and my work was impeccable.
Anyway, one day he laid me off. I don't even know why.

After that, I worked for school districts for a couple of years doing janitor work under a CETA program, mostly sweeping, mopping and waxing floors. They loved me. But when the CETA program ended, I got laid off.

I went on unemployment and milked that for about a year. I spent the time surfing, snow skiing, backpacking, and partying like a Viking.
They finally sat me down and went through all their job opportunities. I couldn't get out of it, so I agreed to take a job painting the insides of apartments when tenants left.
That lasted about a week. It sucked. And the Mexicans on the crew were much better at it than was I.
The boss finally told me that they wouldn't be needing me anymore. I was glad, and just like the fast food place, I thanked him and left.

All the other places I ever worked loved me.
At one warehouse job, I got promoted to customer service and then forklift driver.
While at that job, I got a job offer to be a motor vehicle damage adjuster/appraiser trainee. It turned out to be a wonderful company with excellent salary and amazing benefits. I retired from that job after 30 years.

I did get fired. I was hired by a Systems Integrator to manage their techs and engineers. It was not the job I applied for. I applied for an engineering position but the owner talked me into taking this job.

The company was weird. They would not give me any work to do and it I tried to get some accountability from the people that I was supposed to manage they would complain to the owner. Sometimes they worked from home ans i told them if thy were going to work from home they needed to let me know. They all complained to the owner. My boss used to put meetings on my calendar and then not show up , i would sit in an empty conference room for an hour.

Out of all the people i managed I think the one that was there the longest was there for about 18 months. People would disappear and nobody would talk about it. I always had the feeling i was always being watched. It would not surprise me if they checked on , y internet access.

One day they brought me into the HR office and they fired me. They really did not tell me why and they even admitted that I showed upon time every day and did everything that the asked me to. It really was a weird place.

Doesn't sound great but if getting paid and not criticised when sitting around doing nothing much I'd absolutely love this. I would bring in my degree study books and kill two bords with one stone! Way to multitask yay.
If you had known it would end the way it did, lile if you went back in time, would you not take the job? Or not sweat it and plan to use the time productively elsewhere whilst getting paid? Cos if you were gonna get fired at some point anyways? Would it matter?

@Crimsyjo no, I had to look busy for the whole day because I sat in a cubicle in plain sight. Some of the software we used had online tutorials and I used to do them to look busy.

One of my first real jobs was a pizza maker at Pizza Hut. I did not need the money and worked purely because I was bored and preferred working to watching t. v.

My boss screamed at me saying he would spy on me and would threaten my job if I annoyed him. I don't think he realized I would not care at all if I lost my job since I worked because I had nothing better to do and not because I needed money, and my job was easier than breathing.

  • Yes—twice in my early 20s, both turned into big lessons.

First, I was nearly fired from an internship for missing a deadline and not communicating. My manager told me plainly: “I can’t trust you yet.” That was a wake-up call about responsibility and proactive updates.

Second, I was pushed out of a role after resisting feedback and acting defensively. I learned that skill gaps rarely sink you; attitude does.

Those experiences made me obsessively reliable, open to feedback, and clear in communication—habits that shaped the rest of my career.

Yes, when I was 21 and it was my first full time job. It was a newly started, very small business. They needed someone with experience and I was very green. I was only there 2 weeks and I realized it wasn't working out. A peace came over me as I looked out the back window during the lunch break and I decided to pick up a newspaper on the way home to start looking. Around 2pm the owner called me in to let me go. On the drive home I shed a tear or two since I was still young and really hated job hunting. Within 6 weeks I was blessed with a job that I would be at for 18 years.

No. In all my previous jobs I was always the one who resigned.

Everybody has. If they tell you differently they've either never held a job before or they are flat out lying.
