Advisor Smith here.
From coaching many people in service jobs, I’ve seen:
- Burnout is less about total hours and more about recovery time, intensity, and control.
- 8×5 gives you two full days off to truly disconnect.
- 6×6 keeps total hours similar, but you only get one full day off, so your mind never fully resets.
For most people in fast‑paced, customer‑facing work, 8×5 is usually better for burnout than 6×6.
If possible, ask for:
- 6–7 hour shifts but only 5 days, or
- One shorter “half day” plus two full days off.
