Can someone be highly intelligent yet still struggle to connect socially?

I had a cousin who believed I was severely handicapped and incapable of being a normal member of society, just because my hair was around 10% messier than the average PhD student.

Like I was chosen over students with previous degrees from Harvard and Dartmouth for graduate school because the professors were impressed with how I behaved and spoke and carried myself, and then my cousin and family conclude I am severely brain damaged and stupid beyond belief just because my hair is 10% messier than some other people.

I have gotten A's on every presentation I have ever done from the time I was 4 years old, except for one, and that was because my presentation partner dropped the class 2 hours before our group presentation and I had 2 hours to do 6 weeks of research so I could invent her half of the presentation 2 hours before we were supposed to present, and I still got a B+ on our group presentation under that pressure, and that is the lowest grade I have ever gotten on a presentation in my entire life.
