On the whole, no. Not because men are dumb, but because they are indifferent. Men, generally, don't focus on relationships the way women do, and don't build our identities around relationships. Instead, men focus on their achievements to measure their status in the hierarchy.

When women get together, they talk mostly about their relationships. When men get together, they talk mostly about each other's achievements, or current events, but not about their relationships.

Like anything else, if you want to be good at something, you have to have lots of practice. In this area, women get lots of practice, but men don't (as a rule). As such, men aren't as good at it.

Generally speaking, no. I think in my age group (and older), there isn't much of a sex difference, however, with people in their 20s, there is a stark difference.

I work on a college campus, and among traditional college students, and the difference is night, and day. Almost all of the males between 18-24 years old have inept social skills, and the women in that age group have great social skills. When I was in that age group, I was the same way, so I'm not passing harsh judgment by the way.

I don't think so men aren't great at reading people

[lightbulb27]

We can be, but generally not

No, men are generally not as socially intelligent as women. That's a scientific fact. Men and women are different in some ways. Women are smarter in some ways and men are smarter in other ways, and women clearly have the advantage when it comes to social intelligence.

And that's okay. It's how nature designed us to be, and for good reason. Men and women serve different purposes in the world, or at least they are supposed to. It seens today we are trying to erase all of that, despite the negative consequences.

[bededazzle]

it's possible, sure, but women definitely have better memories and reading of body language, which help a lot. they are certainly more socially intelligent than i am lol

It is a game of catch up. Understanding women are the best. Woman, are easier to love than to understand. Patience pays off, and misunderstandings can be repaired and forgiven. Men mature slower, ask me how I know. But guys at least try socially.

[Avicenna]

Probably not. Women are more adept at telling people what they want to hear or what they think they want them to hear.

Men make the world work. If this doesn't require "social intelligence", I don't know what does. I suppose selling spread shots on OF requires massive social intelligence 😏

[MrOracle]

Just because men have SOME social skills doesn't mean we're as skilled as women. Generally, women are better at this - it plays to their strengths.

This is why powerful men bring their wives to business dinners and other events - women can often tell when someone isn't playing fair or doesn't have the best of intentions.

I learned a lot from my mother

[Kingofkings1992]

Can you specify what you mean by “socially intelligent?”

[Jennz6]

Not the guys that I met

[RedInnocent68]

You just haven’t been lucky yet, but you’re getting better. 😉

[exitseven]
