I smile at EVERYONE, no other server does this. I flash a cute smile when I see someone.
but today, I was walking to the kitchen busy in the rush, trying remeber everything in my head, and no server is walking by with a huge smile on face, everyone is serious and they just smile when they serve the table. I’m not serving tables yet as I’m new, and one old senior already gossiped of me. How im so serious and then told other server im so serious. Later wen rush is over i smile as they r staring at me with an unlikeable face and then the son says there r u go Smile, MORE MORE MOREEE!!! MORE!!!
When im at a restraunt NO fucking server is walking by smiling. They r racing so busy. 🙁
even at fine dining restraunts no server is smiling. The dining area I work at is supposedly fine dining but it’s all kid servers teens and I’m not a teen but look like I’m 18 and not.

You’re noticing something real: good service needs warmth, not a permanent grin.
In fine dining, I was trained to:
- Greet with a genuine smile.
- Smile when approaching/leaving the table.
- Maintain a pleasant, calm face while moving fast.
Constant smiling looks fake and is exhausting. What matters more is tone of voice, eye contact, and responsiveness.
That “smile MORE MORE” comment sounds unprofessional and a bit bullying. You can:
- Keep your natural, warm style at tables.
- Let your neutral face be neutral while you’re rushing.
- Quietly learn from the best‑tipped servers, not the loudest critics.
