Almost every staff at the restaurants in my city are super super nice and friendly and of course I tip them before I leave
I wonder whether they do this just for the tip?
(Which is not a bad thing)
Server here
And yeah kinda lmao. Well I mean I’m always nice to customers even when I worked jobs where I didn’t make tips. I enjoy giving good service. I personally don’t like when I’m being served by someone who seems like they don’t wanna be here. So I don’t want to create that same experience for anyone else.
but of course getting tipped is on my mind too. I work for tips. I don’t get a paycheck. So I’m gonna do whatever I can to guarantee that the tip is tipping lol

Absolutely. They kind of depend on those tips.
There has been one exception in my life where a waitress really liked me. She was being even nicer than I am accustomed to wait staff being and was being flirty. I figured she was just trying to increase her tip. The next time I came to the restaurant, she asked me why I did not give my number to her lol
nice or not, I'M the one who decides to tip. i have to tip at restaurants because they are actively serving. everywhere else? no tip.
do you realize they are nice because they have to work for their tips? that is why. they are in the hospitality business, practically. serving and being nice is their job...
Well.. It’s part of their job to be nice to you. Good customer service is standard… I don’t think having asshole servers would be good for the image of most restaurants.
Im sure it does help with tips as well.

Of course they do. The same way you don't tell people to go fuck themselves at your job so you can continue to get paid. This is part of the reason why tipping is still a thing in this country, it incentives the worker to behave a certain way.
That's not to say that every good deed is a selfish act. But part of being a server is experimenting with your approach until you find what is most profitable for you.
They are doing their job, it's professional. You receive better behavior in return from customers if you give respect first. You also receive better tips if the meal went smoothly.
In some cases, yes. In others, they could also just be naturally more cheery, sanguine, and upbeat personalities.
Yes they are nice to get more money because most of them are paid very little hourly unless they are below min wage after tips
No, but we go to a neighborhood place where everyone knows us. And they know we always leave a good tip
I would think so. If the server is rude and/or unattentive, unless the place is shorthanded or slammed, he or she is not getting my normally extravagant tip.
I believe that's the general idea, they make most of their money based on tips.
Some people are genuinely nice while others you can tell it's staged and forced.
Anyone is and will be nice to you when money is involved
We have no need for tipping in this country.
No.
They need to make it a fun experience for themselves as well, else it would be a shit job.
Of course it works in their favor. Just the way the service industry works
Some of them yes. But you can tell which are faking it so don't leave them a tip.
duh.
some are, and some are just genuinely nice
Some people are just nice
