10 Couch Co-op Video Games You Can Play With Your Significant Other!

Let the couch co-op marathon begin!
Let the couch co-op marathon begin!

Have you ever wondered which video games are the best ones you can play together with your significant other on the couch? One good way to bond with them is making a team effort with them to clear a video game using strategies and teamwork to get through all the obstacles. With having over 15 years of experience playing with my girlfriend, we’ve decided to come up with a collection of games that we believe would be worth your time to play with your significant other, even with your friends if you wanted to! Sadly, we could have listed over 40+ games but we wouldn’t have room for all of those so that’s why we chose our own personal “Top 10” list! Remember, we are looking for couch co-op games that don't require competitive aspects to them like Mario Kart, Mario Party, Fortnite, Overwatch and such. With that said, let’s get started:

1: Super Mario Odyssey (Honorable mention to Super Mario Galaxy 2)

10 Couch Co-op Video Games You Can Play With Your Significant Other!

This game took what made Super Mario Galaxy 2 did and perfected it! (in my opinion). One player controls Mario while the other controls his hat, Cappy. What makes this game highly addicting is all the options you two have together to collect power moons, reach places that would be more difficult on your own and to be able to control objects/living things! There’s a good balance of difficulty here and the creativity this game has to offer is beyond me. I often wish the game would last longer but with all that extra content available, it’ll make your couch co-op experience your with significant other fantastic!

Difficulty Level: Easy

____

2: Kirby Star Allies (Honorable mention to Kirby Super Star and Kirby: Return to Dreamland)

10 Couch Co-op Video Games You Can Play With Your Significant Other!

Looking for a game that’s purely fun with absolutely no difficulty to it? Kirby has some of the world’s easiest, yet fun couch co-op games to offer! The controls are very simple, the secrets are enjoyable, yet pretty easy to obtain and it’s so relaxing for your mind. There’s so many different combination of heroes/friends and abilities to mix that you’d feel like the options almost feel endless! Once you start playing these games, you’ll begin a notice a pattern when you share food with your friends, almost like…kissing! These kind of games would be a great place to start if your significant other has never played a video game before!

Difficulty Level: Very Easy

____

3: Super Mario 3D World

10 Couch Co-op Video Games You Can Play With Your Significant Other!

There’s so many unique level designs here that’s more chaotic and fun the more people you have, even if it’s just with your significant other! Lots of abilities available and plenty of teamwork to go around that’ll make this journey a pleasant and satisfying one. The camera controls are smooth, the abilities feel fair and the difficulty is not too bad overall! A classic tradition to the Super Mario franchise with a multiplayer twist to it! Trust me, you’ll loving being a kitty most of the game!

Difficulty Level: Easy/Medium

____

4: Left 4 Dead series

10 Couch Co-op Video Games You Can Play With Your Significant Other!

What happens when you take four survivors and try to get them to safety with zombie madness and lots of darkness? The never-ending fun that is Left 4 Dead series! Teamwork here is absolutely crucial if you want everyone to make it out alive. It’s not one of those games where you can simply solo everything on your own, in fact the game will punish you for being too separate from your team! Weapons to choose from, healing items to keep the team alive and plenty of strategy are needed to make it to the end of each chapter. These games can be beaten quickly but the multiplayer experience is well worth it!

Difficulty Level: Medium

____

5: Diablo 3

10 Couch Co-op Video Games You Can Play With Your Significant Other!

Playing in an open world RPG game with your significant other in the medieval times never felt so good with all the loot you can collect and thousands of enemies waiting at your doorstep! This game has a great story to it, along with a rewarding system each time you raise the difficulty level should things get too easy for you. It’s perfect for anyone of any experience to play, as long as they are of age/maturity of course. With a good rooster of characters at your fingertips, there’s a unique hero for each person to play! Why this is considered one of the most addicting games of all time is for good reason; give it a try and see!

Difficulty Level: Easy-Hard

____

6: Halo Series (1-4)

10 Couch Co-op Video Games You Can Play With Your Significant Other!

Microsoft had the right idea for a shooter game that’s perfect for the couch co-op experience! The controls are very simple, the level designs make it mostly easy to navigate and there are plenty of weapons/items to use to make this gaming experience want you to go from start to finish. With the recently made remastered collection, along with Halo 6 coming around the corner, this would be an opportunity to give these games a try if you haven’t already. Shooting aliens in this game gives off a satisfying feeling, along with a great set of characters you won’t be forgetting anytime soon! The basic of shooters; a master of fun couch co-op experience! (Except for Halo 5 since that doesn’t have a co-op experience sadly)

Difficulty Level: Medium

____

7: Rayman Legends (Honorable mention to Rayman Origins)

10 Couch Co-op Video Games You Can Play With Your Significant Other!

What a side-scrolling platform game this is to challenge your creativity and control responses! There’s plenty of action to go around and lots of challenges to unlock rewards as you progress through the game. The level designs will come off in various ways from creative ones to smoothing ones with music patterns and those random ones that make you wonder if the creators of the game are insane! It’s also a lot of fun to watch your character inflate if you take too many hits! Probably one of the best platform couch co-op games my girlfriend and I ever played! There’ll be a lot of punching and smacking going around!

Difficulty Level: Medium

____

8: Borderlands Series

10 Couch Co-op Video Games You Can Play With Your Significant Other!

More for the mature audience and some of the most memorable characters I’ve ever seen in a couch co-op game. If you haven’t heard of Handsome Jack, you’re missing out! There’s hundreds of hours you can invest into this game with your significant other to help each other through a shooter and adventure game where there are hundreds of guns to choose from! A crude, yet well-designed world with insane bandits and crazy animals to shoot leaving hundreds of thousands of bullets on the floor by the time you finished the whole game! With all DLC (downloadable content) available, the challenge and level designs this game has to offer will leave you wanting more! The game might be hard to understand at first but once you get it down, it’s super easy! Did I also forget to mention "Claptrap"?

Difficulty Level: Medium/Hard

____

9: Overcooked 2 (Honorable mention to Overcooked 1)

10 Couch Co-op Video Games You Can Play With Your Significant Other!

If you’re up for a couch co-op game with a lot of anxiety and teamwork, Overcooked will test your limits to how well you can handle yourself under pressure for several minutes! The idea here is to make orders to your customer’s needs while, get this…having ridiculous scenarios happen while you’re cooking! The floors split, your cooking on a hot air balloon or trying to serve food while watching for on-coming traffic! Sounds insane yet fun doesn’t it? This game may require you to take some breaks in between if it gets difficult but achieving at least a star on each level is nothing too difficult! There’s been so many situations where my girlfriend and I laughed so hard from how silly the game can get but that’s all part of the fun!

Difficulty Level: Easy/Medium

____

10: Portal 2

10 Couch Co-op Video Games You Can Play With Your Significant Other!

Here’s a game that’ll test yours and your significant other’s mind to overcome obstacles to get from Point A to Point B, using a device that can create portals! The fun thing about this game is that both people are required in order for the both of you to make it to the end of each level. Physics, gravity, walls; these are things to consider when you’re trying to make it to the exit and some of these levels will really make your brain think! The game controls are very easy so there’s no stress when it comes to that. This deserves to be played at least once and I wish there was a sequel coming around but sadly, there hasn't been one yet.

Difficulty Level: Easy/Medium

There’s so many more I wish I could list here but it would take lots of pages to go through! These are the ones we would recommend first if we had to choose but there are plenty more to go around. I wouldn’t mind making a part 2 of this list if there’s enough people wanting it! Do you have favorites you wanted to include on here? Comment them below! Otherwise, thank you so much for checking out my couch co-op game list with your significant other and I’ll see you all again soon!

  • Don’t underestimate playing super scary games that are one player. I love playing survival games if I have a weapon. I hate being in control if all I can do is run. I’m found cowering under the blankets while my husband runs around and I squeal unintelligibly. He loves it. He sometimes seeks the mobs intentionally... jerk.

  • NIce!!! It's good to bring this up as couples should be encouraged to do more fun things together!!! Instead of a guy or girl playing on a system alone, its fun to invite them to join them! Great Mytake!!!

    • Thank you so much! Games are a lot more entertaining when you have others around although I could understand people like playing by themselves from time to time. Just thought if there are couples out there who aren't sure where to start, these were the recommended ones although I'm sure there are plenty out there to choose xD You're a gamer too though! You'd have a pretty good idea of great games out there to play :)

  • Minecarft was a great one for me and an ex I lived with. I am pretty sure we lost two months of lives to that game...

I always tell people it was sort of like Inception where we created our own dream house and kingdom etc. together

Portal 2, Halo series, and borderlands were all great as well. I would also add 'Lovers in a Dangerous Spacetime' too. And pretty much any base building coop game. 'Factorio' is fun one that comes to mind

    • Mario Party is quite a competitive game in which people face off against each other although there are mini-games that are cooperative though! I haven't tried out Minecraft although I have heard that's one of the greatest multiplayer games ever made. Thank you for your opinion!

    • Excatly competive but also still friendly so if your other is normally quite competeive it would be a great game to play, also you can do tags teams so you two ageist 2 npc.

  • How could you forget Mario Kart?

    • You didn't read my first paragraph did you? xD Mario Kart is more of a competitive game as opposed to cooperative, which is why I didn't include it. Otherwise, it would definitely be a must!

  • Resident evil 5 and 6.

  • lol left 4 dead... so much memories of me being an ass to random players online. running off on my own, lure the tanks to kill team mates, setting off every trap and alarm on the way to the safe rooms, spamming the safe room door open/close non stop so teammates can't get in and eventually get killed by a smoker or hunter lmao
