You want people to get over it? Talking about it more isn’t helping your cause.
Valid point. This was just my last word about the subject.
Glad to hear it
It's just a race, a color. Her performance is what matters most.
Next thing we know there will be a Uncle Tom's Cabin movie with black people being the owners and the white people being the slaves. I find it retarded to ruin the original characters look.
I still say they should recast. She looks nothing like Ariel nor sounds like Ariel. I'm all for a black singer or character but don't change Ariel. Let them at least make a different Princess. Ariel should be played by somebody who resembles her.
Still not really buying that anyone is really caring about this. I am sure she was cast off of her skill and the fact that she is stunning. Not brcause of her race. So let's just enjoy.
I’ll wait to see the movie to decide if I’ll get over it.
If it’s a steaming pile of cow shit then I’m gonna at least put part of the blame on her casting more than likely.
This is precisely why Disney is doing what they are doing. Talk all the critical stuff you want... you still MADE THEM MONEY by buying a ticket.
Most of the population is going to do what you’re doing. Talk all this empty shit on social media but still give them your money.
I applaud Disney, because they know the climate of modern American society, Social media outrage is all fluff because they still make money off us!
@Prof_Don I don’t really get outraged over stuff like this. If I don’t like it I just don’t go. I’ve paid to see some horrible movies , one more isn’t going to kill me. Do I wholly agree with the approach? Nahhh , but at the end of the day it doesn’t really make a difference in the quality of my life. So... shrug.
Ariel is a white, red haired kid... until now. Millions just won’t go to see it and I am going to give Disney a lot less of my money...
They say they want blind casting but that is only true for white roles.
How are black people underrepresented in movies?
They are over represented in all media.
Idgaf if they cast Shrek as Ariel, just stop spreading the myth of "lack of representation"
They can do what they want but don't expect me to watch it. Now it looks like they've dun ghettofied the little mermaid just for the heck of it.
Also I'm absolutely sick of remakes both in film and video games.
Like you said, as long as she dyes her hair raid, I will be happy. Otherwise, it's unacceptable no matter her race!
Its's easy to just say get over it while where not being the ones replaced by people of color in films like red heads are.
Who said I wasn’t a redhead? Last I checked redhead wasn’t a race either. I think anyone can dye their hair can’t they?
Ya, but by that logic anyone can dye their skin😂
@nathanp97 That’s very different. I don’t think people can even be born with the shade of red Ariel’s hair was. Isn’t it an unnatural color?
Yes, but people get mad when characters in movies dont mach the books. Annabeth in percy Jackson would be a good example. The idea is to get as close as possible. Additionally, many movies that are supposed to be played by a white person aren't, but any time a white person plays or is supposed to play a character of a minority people freak out and call it racist. If you can't take it the other way around it shouldn't be something we do
@nathanp97 I totally agree. They did it in a way that is actively seeking out black people, for example, for these movie re-makes. Why not just make a totally different mermaid movie with black people? Now the whole race of The Little Mermaid cast is gonna have to be changed including Ariel’s dad and all her sisters... I wonder who’s gonna play Eric... prob a white guy tho cuz they’re pushing for interracial couples
Ariel cannot be black. She will drown
Sorry, I couldn't resist
Well at least Blade is staying black for the new one. Disney didn't make him a Chinese tranny or anything which I am shocked.
Is that a reference to something? Sorry, but i don't get it
@AdorableLilo 'Cuz black people can't swim
oohh.. xD I'm black. I should've remember that stereotype. Anyway, now your comment made me laugh. Can't see why the other 7 women didn't
@AdorableLilo Thank you for not being a snowflake. People don't know how to laugh at themselves anymore. But actually, if you watch the Olympics, you will notice that's actually kind of true. But you guys have the best runners!
Truthfully, if I wouldn't have read it here I never would have known about it. So, doesn't much matter to me.
Same thing.
I can't get over the fact that they're casting Halle Bailey as Ariel- so unrealistic. Ariel has a fish bottom half. Halle Bailey literally has legs: I HAVE SEEN HER WALK!! Get a real mermaid for the part, fuckers.
it looks more racist when they do things like this
Accuracy 25/100
Has red hair ❎
Is the right skin tone ❎
Has smooth hair ❎
Is a girl ☑️
They can make her hair red and smooth though.
Tru but how they gonna maker her a mermaid?
A costume. CGI.
I wonder how many more movie and toy flops Disney can take. At this rate Disney's bottom line is going to be "under the sea" sooner rather than later.
I have no problem with Ariel being played by a black girl, per se. The only issue I have is with the extreme liberalness and political correctness of Hollywood, which this just happens to be a part of.
This i don't care about. But making a childhood hero (sonic) into a transgender made me sick. He has always been a guy
I think that was false. checkyourfact.com/.../
Well in that case i apologize, but still, people care more about genders these days than whats really wrong with the system, thats sad. But im old school, i know its only 2 genders.
Transgender is created from one of those genders, but both body and brain will prove no mather what you do with your body. What it truly is. (Science)
But i know other places in the world its not the same, thats also sad. A person should freely decide what to do with he's or her body.
Gender is social construct, sex is biology
Who cares? Disney's The Little Mermaid is not Hans Christian Andersen's version, so there is no need for the mermaid to be able to pass as a 19th Century Danish girl.
