What's up y'all? It's been a while since I've done a MyTake but this is one I've been wanting to do for a while now so I finally decided to stop procrastinating and get to it! When people, or at least people unfamiliar with metal, think of heavy metal music they probably picture big burly men with long beards and tattoos jumping around on stage screaming their hearts out. I want to show some love for the all female and female fronted metal outfits, which there are plenty of! Without further ado let's get in to this. 🤘 I decided to feature some relatively unknown and underground artists and bands. 🖤

#1 NERVOSA

Nervosa is an all female thrash metal band originally from São Paulo, Brazil. These ladies are absolutely brutal and they have no problem keeping up with the guys! 😎

#2 Xenoblight

This female fronted progressive death/thrash metal band hails from Denmark. An absolutely killer band with a powerful female vocalist. I've been listening to these guys for a while now and they're nothing short of amazing! 😍

#3 Sylvanie

This one woman band from Norway writes, composes, and performs the instruments in all of her songs. Another powerhouse of a vocalist whose primary genre is blackgaze from what I can tell (there's not much information on her). She also composes solemnly beautiful piano pieces and other such songs. An absolute talent. Pleaaaase check her out and show her some love!

#4 Darkened Nocturn Slaughtercult

A female led black metal band from Germany. They perform traditional raw black metal which is an acquired taste, and I've definitely aquired it.

An all female black metal band from Norway. Absolutely killer ladies performing black magic with their instruments. 😜

#6 Once Human

Okay I think that's enough black metal for y'all lmao. I could fill this whole list up with female black metal bands. Once Human is a female fronted melodic death metal band from Los Angeles, California, founded in 2014 by music producer and former Machine Head/Soulfly guitarist Logan Mader. He recruited miss Lauren Hart on vocals and she's an absolute BEAST!!!

#7 Sinistro

Sinistro are a doom/sludge metal band from Portugal. They're music is as heavy as it is haunting, thanks to Patricia's beautiful solemn vocals. The lyrics are in Portuguese so I don't understand the words. 😂 But I still adore them nonetheless. Their music videos are also very surreal and bizarre.

#8 Cerebral Bore

Last but DEFINITELY not least, we have the monsteress of Cerebral Bore, Simone "Som" Pluijimers. I literally cannot tell the difference between her and a male brutal death metal vocalist. Abso-fucking-lutely insane. Sadly she was only with the band for a few short years. She also fronted the melodic death metal band Your Chance To Die, who also feature a secondary female vocalist, I shall also link one of their songs. (WARNING: EXTREMELY BRUTAL)

Metal definitely isn't for everyone but those who have a love for the genre definitely shouldn't underestimate the badass ladies of the metal scene.

What got you into the metal culture?

I didn't know much that metal existed until my parents had cable and the music channel played iron maiden and Metallica on there, other then that I thought it was just heavy rock. I'm not good with names or titles sadly I was poor and barely had much of anything growing up so the closest to music I got was radio.

I'm still lurking into that genre I appreciate metal but it's still very new to me, my husband is in love with metal but cause of him growing up with metal and being a metal head he acted dumb until he learned to just be himself and love metal too.

So his issues kinda side tracked me with wanting to seek out more music. Didn't want to be apart of something that was dicks overall to people and especially women. But I have found some other region metal that I love telling stories of legends, vikings, life. Don't listen everyday though or much it's hard when your a mom lol

Your best bet is to first learn what kind of metal you enjoy. There are a bazillion subgenres that are quite far apart. So I would recommend just going through the list of those subgenres and listening to 3-4 different bands from that to figure out what you enjoy.

After you know that and know the subgenre and bands you enjoy it gets easier to find bands that are similar in style.

Awesome! Have to say I've never heard of any of these bands. Thanks for sharing your opinions and exposing me to something I likely never would have heard. The only female 'heavy metal' band I have ever really listened to is L7, they aren't a death metal though. Rock on! 🤘

It's mostly the vibe for me. It makes me feel powerful in a way and I've always enjoyed "different" music. Metal isn't the only genre I like, I'm really into experimental music of all kinds as well.
