this story described a "coal mine" town by appalachia , under an oppressive government that replaced the u.s. government. this book was very popular.

the author could have chosen a "coal mine" such as shaanxi in central north china , a famous big one, for the setting of her dramatic story, but for marketing she knew people enjoy imagining america destroyed. she was right and instead of being a turn off, for people like me, it had great popularity, apparently because many people enjoy imagining america destroyed.

about coal in the real world: china is LARGEST CONSUMER of coal for power adding much pollution to our air, nonstop and unstopped.

even new york times warned "china burns more coal putting climate goals at risk." meaning ruining the air. still no echoing fuss about that, except by me but i am the one who "nitpick" about china occupying tibet. china coal risk does not serve any purpose for the dnc agenda, that news companies push, so this had gentle wording "risk" and no echoing fuss.
