I would say captain america before Ironman. Or even most prominent X-men befor Iron man. He wasn't unknown but beside avengers he never was huge before the MCU. Dont get me wrong he is a big number but concerning other alternatives he only got that big once the MCU started. In comics Cap and most X-men are better known. Even Thor or Hulk I would put before Ironman from the avengers members.

I agree with the list, though I'd swap Wonder Woman and Spider-Man. Both Lynda Carter and Gal Godot as Wonder Woman have contributed greatly to Superheroes.

I'd also give honorable mention to Supergirl, played by Melissa Benoist and Helen Slater.

Superman is probably the dumbest, most boring super hero of all time. What makes a great hero (all the way back to Greek and Norse mythology) is character flaws and weaknesses that need to be overcome to defeat the bad guys. It's about the morality, ethics, and character more than the muscles and super powers. That's what makes them relatable to billions of average schmucks. So for me, the one's who did that...
