I don't know, I don't like the people who commit suicide. They're cowards. They don't respect the opportunity they have been given. But I never thought that the person I considered my idol would do that.

My thoughts are with his family and friends. You and I have no idea what he had to deal with. If you're such a fan of his then you would know that he had a really rough childhood and adolescence, and that his lyrics were dark and depressing at times. He had demons, and depression is a chemical imbalance in the brain that sometimea can't just be 'thought away'. Every person is different.

All in all, you sound very condescending about a person you've never met, so of course his grieving fans are going to retaliate. I'm not trying to troll you or be a bitch. If you don't think so, try reading and rereading your post out loud, or maybe to someone that you trust. Humble yourself and have some respect for the dead. Check yourself. I have a friend in the hospital right now whom I've known most of my life, who is there because she tried to commit suicide. She has three kids that if she had succeeded, she would have left behind, but I do not consider her to be a coward or the act pathetic, and neither does her family. I consider her to be someone who really needs help and someone who has been struggling for a long time to the point where she felt the pain was this bad for her.

In society, we teach people to hide pain, and not talk about it because it makes other people uncomfortable, or to just deal or get over things that may be hurting them a lot deeper than we know, or we become too busy with our own lives to take the time to even notice when friends or family are suffering. We make it a shame to cry and a shame to be depressed, and then we expect people to just be happy and able to manage all the time. It's not so black and white like that. I see my friends, face, I see how deep she has been struggling, and I just hope there is something or someone who can help her through.

I'm extremely shocked by this cause I grew up listening to him and his music. It's crazy how theses musicians are just killing themselves instead calling out for help. When Chris died that was his opportunity to speak out and say he was feeling the same way but he's kept his mouth closed on the issue. It's incredibly wrong to do this to his wife and children, now his kids have to grow up fatherless and that's not fair to them. It's a selfish act when you know people love and support you, if your struggling with an addiction and you know you can't go through it on your own anymore-you call for help. If your feeling alone or depressed even though people show you their there for you- you call for help. Stop thinking about yourself and think of the pain and disappointment your putting on everyone around you. I pray that God will be there to support his family at this time cause it hard handling something like this.

It definitely feels weird.
I'm not a fan who listen to their songs everyday but I've been listening to their music since I was a teen. I often listen to it and was even listening to their music this week.
We will never have a new album with Chester singing and that is very sad.

I don't think people who commit suicide are cowards. I've never been in such a state of mind so I don't understand how bad a person must feel to do it. He apparently had though about it before so it shouldn't really come as a surprise.

There might be a lot behind this, bro. My girlfriend is tapering off of benzodiazepines right now, and she's going through a years-long process of unbearable and almost constant pain and suffering. She talks to others going through the same thing in an online forum, and people kill themselves all too often because of how horrible the withdrawals are, from a medication they were prescribed and only took as directed. A lot of people are thinking this is what caused Chris Cornell of Soundgarden's suicide a few months ago, as I believe he had cut off benzodiazepines cold turkey, and that often leads to the worst symptoms. It's basically a brain and central nervous system injury, and it affects your entire body, internally and externally, with crazy pains and sensations. Can't even begin to explain how terrible it is. I'm wondering if Chester was going through something similar, because these pills are widely and irresponsibly prescribed. Or it could have been some sort of mental disorder. We look at these famous people like demigods when they're really just men and women like us, going through life, dealing with problems, external and internal. Just a sad situation here.

I liked Linkin Park when I was 11 and then couldn't stand them afterwards. Having said that, I never wished the dude would commit suicide. I just simply didn't listen to their music.

It's insulting when people say they're glad he's dead because they didn't like his music. Or when people say he's a coward for it or even say he had all the money and fame and yet did that. No one knows what was going through his head and celebrity or not, he was still someone's kid, father, sibling, friend, etc.

Explaining how depression affects a person is like explaining colors to a blind person. They can't fully grasps just how it is. People call them cowards among many names. I went through severe depression through my teen years and into my early 20s. At one point I almost ate a hollow point from a.45 glock. People out in certain situations, can have different outcomes. Like with criticism, it can fuel one person to work harder or it could kill the motivation of another. People in general vary in so many different ways that no one has the right to calk another a coward for such feelings. Imagine the worst physical pain you've ever felt, and feeling that sane pain every second, if every minute, if every hour, of every day, week, month, year. A heavy weight on your chest that makes it difficult to breathe, a never ending headache tgat just won't go away. Just because you can't see it, doesn't mean it isn't there. People get tired of that pain and anything and everything they have tried won't make it stop, so they see no other way. When I was a finger twitch away, that feeling I fekt was the worst I've ever experienced, but I understood that I was not the only one who felt like that. So I put it away and hoped to help others. I wanted to be the hand that picks someone up when they've been kicked down too many times. I want them to know, they don't have to fight that battle alone. Never underestimate the power of words. It could break someones mental fortitude or it could pull someone above drowning waters inside themselves.

Linkin Park is the reason I got into music, now they're broken, terribly. I just wish this turns out to be a nightmare and someone wakes me up immediately. I feel like there were so many people close to Chester (their band is like a family, not just some group of friends), I wish he reached out to at least one of them. This could have been avoided. He created such a shell that nobody realized what he had been going through. Look at all his interviews, the most recent ones too. Does he look like someone who's gonna end his life or even considering it? Why didn't he just get some help from his loved ones? I think that you have to have walked in someone's shoes before you can call them a coward for committing suicide. For instance, some women committed suicide during the Srebrenica massacre because they were so terrified about the inevitable rape and brutal torture that was facing them. Were they cowards? Depression is not something you simply fight with willpower as depression strips you of all willpower to do anything or live. If you have any left to pull yourself out good... I used to think similarly as you about suicide, until I've learned more about them. He definitely is a big loss. Their music got me through many painful times of my life and I'm fortunate enough to see him live - hug and thanked him.

Suicide isn't an escape nor a sign of cowardliness - It's more than that. It's a lot of mental issues. We won't understand ones pain since we all walk different paths of lives. He suffered from addiction and being abused. Those two mixed together are time bombs.

I don't think that people who commit suicide are cowards.
Sure, if they have a family and friends who love them, these people are going to suffer. They will ask themselves why, what went wrong, what was this person going through.

Although their new album is shit, I still listen to Meteora and Hybrid Theory pretty often. This really hit in the feels, man. I was with my friends when we all heard and we all talked about how Linkin Park was the shit when we were little and it was all we wanted to listen to. I haven't got to listen to much of the information surrounding his suicide if there are reasons revealed yet, but I'll certainly give it some time to read through and sit on it. This happens all too often in the world of celebrities and I wish something could be done to protect them from it.

Such a sad thing. Growing up in the early 2000's it was impossible not to know who they were and most people I knew regardless of musical preference liked at least one of there songs.

I said this after Robin Williams died and still say it now, we need to listen to people when they have problems. This is part of the reason why mental illnesses will never be taken seriously enough in the entertainment industry and in normal life as well. It goes a lot deeper than not "feeling" or "performing" well. You lived a different life than he did. How could you possibly compare your COMPLETELY different situation to his? I think that one is in a very very dark place to commit this. I don't see it as cowardly. Usually the person is severely emotionally, mentally exhausted. Asking for help is asking for attention, for some people that can be very challenging.
The first time I heard "crawling " i was like 11 years old. Their songs really pulled me through those angry teenage years. I've seen them twice and will forever be grateful for having such honest music.
