I feel for Cal in Titanic?

Is it bad that I actually feel bad for Cal in Titanic? Everything he ever did was to try and please Rose, and yet she never once rejected him or showed disinterest, and cheated on him.

So when he slapped her (not saying it was right) but you kind of understand how hurt he was. Even when he tried to shoot Jack showed he still loved her even after what she did to him so much that he wanted him dead (again, not right but I understand the feelings.)

When I was little I used to always think Cal was the bad guy. But these days I just think Rose and Jack were the assholes and Cal was only reacting to how he’d been treated.

Anyone agree?

Lmao. I thought I was the only one. Ofc hé wad controlling but maybe if Rose showed him love and gratification for taking care of her the way he did, he would probably turn into a better person. He was possessive, because he noticed that his fiancé was attracted to someone else so ofc he would get angry. jack was sweet, but maybe if he was born rich he would be as shallow and proud as him.
( plus he’s better looking than jack)

The only thing I hated about Cal is when he said to embarrass jack that men creat their own luck, while he is born rich, which is a sign of big luck 😂 they probably used this sentence to show that he isn’t that smart, but still he was a good catch

Cal was not the bad guy in movie..
Ice berg was the bad guy..
Then again..
People were trespassing in his ocean with a ship..
And polluting his home.. With smoke and waste..
Just look up the amount of toxic waste and pollution did TITANIC..
I am not glad that it sank people.
But I wouldn't have wanted that it did more than on trip in océan

Cal did literally nothing wrong. He went way out of his way to please her, was gracious with Jack, and only slapped her/lost his patience with her after she fucked another dude behind his back.

It was an arranged marriage. Rose was forced to marry him.
She had no feelings for him. She was just pretending to be his wife.
And Cal was a pretty stiff and strict person to Rose. Rose wanted more freedom, she wanted to have fun.
There were strict manners for women and men in those days.
It is a moment in the movie how a little girl is taught to sit up straight at the table and eat very elegantly. Although that strict code of politeness looks beautiful, it was not always easy to bear, especially since you had to practice it with great care and attention once you left your room / house.
But Cal was not an understanding person either, marriage suited him. He received a beautiful girl, less rich than him, polite, polite. It would have made him look like an accomplished gentleman.
It was imperative that a man and a woman be young married.
If at least Cal didn't feel anything for Rose or accept a marriage of love, maybe the story would have been different. But he wanted Rose without regard to her feelings for that relationship.
He was not a bad man, but he and Rose were victims of those times.
If Rose married Jake, Rose would be an outcast in the world. A woman who gave up her status for love in those days was madness.
Love in those days was very petrifying and rare to find without the possibilities of today.

You have to remember the time period it was set in. That’s how he was raised. And even though you say he looked down on the poor, he certainly wouldn’t invited Jack to dinner if he disliked them that much.
