Am I the only one that thinks FRIENDS is an overrated show?

I never thought it was funny and I never felt like any of the characters were relatable. I just feel like it gets way too much hype.

I need to see it more to fairly say. My girlfriend always loved it. I’ve seen it some because of either her watching it, or back in the day it was kind of paired with Seinfeld, even in syndication. I would watch Seinfeld, then move onto whatever, but if I stopped watching but didn’t turn off the TV, Friends would come on. So I know it enough to know the characters and the general gist of the show. I don’t think it’s NOT funny from what I’ve seen, I feel like it’s actually pretty well-written, but there’s still something about it that just never made it click for me. I think it feels a little too “for women” for me, like with the series-long theme of some of these people looking for love, “Ross & Rachel” drama, etc... TV romance is just usually feels very contrived and corny to me, so I prefer not to see it unless it’s done right, maybe not even then, haha. Love stories just don’t intrigue me, I guess. So I think something like that might be the difference between Friends and Seinfeld for me. The Seinfeld folks went on dates and stuff, but more as a vehicle for ensuing comedy, you weren’t really made to be emotionally invested in the successes and (usually) failures of their love lives. There were more women on the show too, so more female-oriented storylines, and the dudes on the show weren’t relatable guys that I was like “I’d hang out with that guy”, the dudes were actually wicked annoying to me. Jennifer Aniston is easy to look at, that’s about all it had for me, lmao. But like I said, I feel like it was still well-done, I think it just missed my individual mark. And maybe for you, as a young lady, it’s harder to relate to people who are your age on the show, but these people are actually old enough to be your parents. I hear younger people say Seinfeld is overrated, which blows my mind into a million pieces, lmfao, but maybe “Life in NYC as a young adult in the 90s” just doesn’t land with Millenials and Gen Z.

It's literally one of the whitest, lamest, corniest, cheesiest, unfunny shows to ever air on television. Probably not since the Dick Van Dyke show, but this was on 40 years later. Even putting myself in the mind of the lamest person I could think of, I still don't see how I could ever find Friends enjoyable. Maybe I also would need to be a white girl to like it? Yup, that must be it. I think it's for every college freshman Becky, Sue, Megan, and Amber out there. And since I'm a black male, I'm probably literally as far from Friends' target audience as possible.

At least Seinfeld was likeable in its 90s cynicism and mundane observations at life; kinda like Jerry Seinfeld was, himself. I could get why people would like or dislike Seinfeld, but I can't see how anyone besides a Basic Bitch could like Friends.

I don’t like it either cause it seemed like a waste of time - like there was never an intimate or personal or affectionate or poignant connection of any kind - there was never a gesture of compassion or reverence - it was just vain junk. Like I like shows and movies where I can feel an emotional connection to the personality or story line - the only emotion friends ever evokes was frustration at this or that going wrong.

British classic sitcoms are literally at about 15 levels higher than those.

not relatable? I know a bunch of people exactly like them. Sad but true. And many of the top quotes from tv history came from this show. Yeah, it's not for everyone, but that doesn't diminish the greatness of the show for those who connected with it. Yes, I think it went on for too long, and like most shows that go on that long, there were some elements of sucky-ness that appeared, but you cray cray if you hate the whole show for it's weak moments, and ignore the amazing moments that it provided for its time.

Stopped watching TV towards the end of the 2000's , and do not miss what is mainly propaganda & BS now , yes agree , watched just a few minutes , and seemed to be a self congratulatory , unfunny & very bland show , a couple of mildly amusing moments , but 90's British comedy was far , far better... some actual savage humour , which is my style.

I liked it, but I didn't "worship" it. I never thought the characters were supposed to be portraits of real people, so I never took them seriously. For me, "Friends" was like mindless, disposable comedy that you could go in and out of and not miss a thing.

For it's time it was a top show. It's kind of like watching movies from the 90's and comparing special effects to movies produced today in 2020, it's just not a comparison. Writing, society, and content has evolved as well over the years.
