Playing video games is now an addition?

Having an additional makes someone inherently violent?

I wouldn't say it makes someone violent, but i would argue that it desensitizes those who play them to real world violence.

Then why is violent crime down not up? If people are “desensitized” why would they be committing less violent crime compared to decades past instead of more?

Granted anecdotal evidence is meaningless scientifically but out of 8 years in the Army I know what it feels like to be desensitized to violence. Granted I wouldn’t claim I was ever very sensitive to violence in the first place.

Killing someone is an emotional roller coaster sooner or later even when it’s in defense of your own life and you have bo rational reason to feel bad. Same thing with someone you cared about does but you’re still alive. Comparing it to the non existent emotional reaction to a make believe death from computer generated pixels on a screen.

Now there is science from the military that firing a rifle at a human shaped target instead of a circular target doesn’t make someone more likely to fire their rifle in combat. The US Army increased willingness of soldiers to fire their weapon at another person from WWI to WWII form 10% to over 85% with that simple training change.

So I can see some trying to draw undue conclusions from that if you’re completely unaware of how military firearms training is conducted and what it’s like for someone to okay a video game.

Ones real and one is fantasy there is no rational way to confuse the two.

Now if we started having kids shooting human silhouettes with rifles or pistols if day they’re far better prepared for combat but no less likely in and of itself to shoot someone unlawfully. Since you don’t see military members shooting people unlawfully at a higher percentage than the general public.

At the end of the day when you have tragedy especially school shootings. People want to blame something to help the grieving and feel like something is being down to “fix the problem”. Problem is blame games don’t fix anything just prevent people from reflecting on what actually is a potential fix like improving access to mental health in this nation.

@YOLOIFIC The answer is pretty basic. It’s because they’re no longer fascinated with “violence” as they were decades and centuries ago. The opportunity to play “violent” video games gives the virtual player a taste of the reality of partaking in the mysteries of “violence” and, so, they’re no longer fascinated with the concept and that’s why violence rates are down and not up since last recorded.

That’s a hypothesis but don’t think it has any evidence to back it up. We’re still fascinated by violence as a species. Maybe at times we’re slightly less brutal than our forefathers in how we exact our violence on each other.

We use smart bombs and rifles the deliver a far quicker and less painful end instead of strangling them to death or if the Bible is your chosen mythology basing their head in with a rock.

It is possible that video games give an release, again I would doubt it would be sufficient to resolve any homicidal tendencies since again killing a person in real life at least in my experience in war is nothing like killing a imaginary fictional character that respawns in a fantasy universe digitally created.

At least you’re not demanding censorship or more stupid laws to take thing away from people that never did anything to anyone out of baseless fears. So I give you kudos for that despite flailing to concur with your hypothesis as to way.

Does watching violent movies make you violent? What about reading a violent book? If you answered no to either of those, that same answer is applied to gaming. It's a medium of entertainment. As for my personal belief, absolutely not.

That's because you share time with them... Most kids are alone with games and internet... And yeah it's only the kids who are affected.. And that's only when they have a lot of free time and not much going on outside virtual reality, and like I said, kids that age are fond of edginess of any kind... if you're older that's a you problem buddy.. Not some video games... I've heard many kids on the news.. Even where I live... who committed violence... They're all addicted to this type of adrenaline rushed games.. even one of them said he recreated an act from his favorite game

No, video games don't make you violent, they never did and they never will. Seriously, are we still live in the 1990's? Is this seriously can come up in someones mind in 2021?

What about violent movies or books? Why do people like to point fingers on video games always? OMG humanity never sees to amaze me (in a terrible way).
