Does that sounds happy? christmassy? Or even Jolly? Not at all. There’s nothing in “Last Christmas” about Santa, reindeer, trees, snow, or anything we typically associate with the holiday. Rather, the song is about a failed romance that just happens to have begun on December 25, when Michael gave someone his heart, and ended on December 26, when this ungrateful person “gave it away.” . Do you consider it as a Christmas song? Or you just listen and sing without noticing the lyrics/words?

It's a Christmas song.
It's just not portraying Christmas as the next time of year it's speaking the truth Christmas is crap for a lot of people.
Many people realise they've had enough at Christmas and they breakup, crack teeth, have heart attacks, burn the Christmas Dinner, boilers break, cars breakdown on the road to relatives, people fall ill with the flu, people have to go to work, some people are alone at Christmas.

It is sending the wrong message. Of course all that can happen to anyone. I don't sing to someone (happy birthday, you are a year closer to death, you will get old and shit in your pants, because it's your birthday)

This may be true but its a song that sings of pain but actually doesn't make it seem quite so painful.
Their success with the song proves this.
Some may even think that by creating this they allow the person to still enjoy what's left of the celebrations even when it's crap.

Haha. We know it's not a Christmas song. But it's a good song to be played as a warning to all of the naive and gullible young females out there. Since there is a lot of romance in the air at Christmastime.
