After years of working in Jaycee Haunted Houses, I've learned that the "timing of the startle response" ( for lack of a better term) is what does the job. If done well, no mask would be needed to "scare" (actually startle) someone. Lull them into pattern/ false sense of security - and then - BANG-O!
One of our most successful rooms was a TV on a "cabinet" next to a bed. The TV was running a video loop (this was back in VHS tape days) of about a minute of a spooky movie. A gal in a nightgown holding her teddy bear was on the bed, calling the visitors to come closer since the "good part" was coming in a few seconds. Sure enough as soon as she pulled in a few guests, a guy (sometimes masked, sometimes not) burst out from the "cabinet". So many people jumped back SO hard, that we had to replace the broken wall behind and add extra studs and new paneling!
Based on your original pic you used as your profile pic Daniele, I think you would have a difficult time scaring kids without makeup 😉
Didn't you see my witch self portrait? ha ha
Oh I thought that was one of the Women from Al Bundy's Shoe store! Lol. Didn't even look like you 😀
Little Debbie is scary
@888theGreat Why are you bringing back this year old question?
I saw it. Are you sorry you asked it or something? It could be asked again in October.

I don't need no makeup
Is that Rasputin?
He is. An interesting character in history I think. My potential costume
Do you have a scraggley beard like him too?
Yeah and long hair. But it's reddish brown... should work well enough because my face looks similar to this particular picture I think...
Well just remember what happened to him. The kids might mob you and take all your candy and stuff you in the clothes dryer.
I can scare them just with my own face. Hell - I scare myself with it.
Hopefully not unless I startle them
I just watch Zombie movies
