I had to look up what actually happened. Like you, only keep hearing about it and seeing posts online. Now they're going to make this a huge "thing" by doing "investigations" (sigh, rolling eyes). I don't think he was out of line. Chris is a comedian, I get that, but something as sensitive a subject as that, he should've maybe talked to Will about it before doing it. Now Will is being "forced" to apologize to him (I'm assuming).

I never watch any of those propaganda shows that aim solely at glorifying a few people that have achieved nothing useful in life in terms of gain for the entire humanity rather that in terms of personal enrichment.

I have never been a fan of Hollywood and its decadent actors. But if this guy slaps the other one, then there must have been a good reason unless of course, it is all show because their rating is not as good as they used to be and they must put on a show to attempt to get a few million $ because of their failing career.

It was a pretty dumb joke, and I would actually support Will Smith if he had simply slapped him, sat back down and didn't say another word because the point was made. The problem though is he was clearly laughing at the joke only seconds before, and he started screaming like a spoiled child after returning to his seat. Thanks to his wife and Oprah, it's also public knowledge that his marriage is far from loving and he's enduring constant abuse from his wife-in-name-only. Sure it's "defending his wife's honor" from the traditionalist point of view, except she has none to begin with nor does he seem to ever stand up for himself. In my opinion, this was Will lashing out at his situation and it just happened to be Chris Rock who put himself in the crosshairs, not that he didn't deserve it.

So really it's difficult to agree with either of them.

Whether percieved as justified or unjustified, I feel that it's unfortunate that this is what will most will likely be remembered about the 94th Academy Awards. I feel like I've bounced back and forth from being on Will's side and than on Chris. Rather than lashing out in anger I think it would of been better for the two to have had a conversation in private. It's always better to approach things from a calm level headed frame of mind than acting first and than there being consequences to follow.

I think its funny about how the #OscarsSoWhite, and then here comes Will Smith with his black on black crime. Even Jada Pinkett Smith boycotted the awards, for being too white in 2016 when she wasn't nonnominated. How proud she must be of her husbands performance last night.

Only 4 black men have one the award for best actor... and there was only one man in all the 93 years of Oscar's history that committed a crime on stage in front of the world... OH WHY did he have to be Black! ;-/

Not to mention that if any white comedian tried to make fun of a black women on stage he/she would of been stoned to death by "woke" crowd.

While I am definitely not above husbands slapping other men for defending their wives' honor, my only issue with this situation is that Will Smith shouldn't have done it on stage on live television, as people's reactions to the fiasco could result in Will Smith being seen in a negative light. Instead, he should have slapped Chris Rock when the show was over. On the plus side, Will Smith's slap did make the Oscars entertaining and memorable, as I honestly never had an interest in watching the Oscars in the first place. Will Smith already underwent a lot of hell and ridicule because of the "entanglement" that his wife had with another man in the past and clearly reached his breaking point with the jokes. Some people might think my opinion is tasteless, but so was Chris Rock's mouth after that slap. I'm sorry, but the whole thing was just hilarious to me.

While I don't think it's an offensive joke, but some do - still, overreacted.
I would've got up, go to my wife and kiss her - then ask her: "Can I be on same movie, in-case? I need the money".

You respond to a joke with a better joke. If you can't take it or really really find it personal - say thanks, walk out. Don't assault someone - especially in front of millions.

As far as I see Will was just defending his wifes honour and dignity as would any gentleman after Chris Rock made Jada the butt of his insensitive joke. Chris Rock should be penalized for his gross lack of judgement. Will should be applauded for standing by his wifes side.

I haven't seen the whole thing but the way I heard it Kid Rock was out of line and Will Smith pointed out his error by challenging him to a duel. Kid Rock, being no gentleman and a coward to boot, declined.

Nothing to see really but Will probably has to give up on becoming President. Which is a shame because it looks like he could slap some sense into other world leaders.

His acceptance speech later was telling. "I'm being called on to do this, and I'm being called on to do that..." Really? What he did to Chris Rock just a few minutes earlier was completely contrary to everything he said he's being "called on" to do.

There were a lot of women and elders attending the event so I thought it was disrespectful for both Chris and Will to make such a scene but mainly Will Smith, he should have handled his business after the show with Chris rock maybe gone on interviews and talked about it maybe even explained why he was so angry instead of causing a scene like a high school teenager with raging hormones. So, it was highly imprudent, disrespectful, no manners and uneducated for both.
