I had to look up what actually happened. Like you, only keep hearing about it and seeing posts online. Now they're going to make this a huge "thing" by doing "investigations" (sigh, rolling eyes). I don't think he was out of line. Chris is a comedian, I get that, but something as sensitive a subject as that, he should've maybe talked to Will about it before doing it. Now Will is being "forced" to apologize to him (I'm assuming).

I've answered this enough times today: It was uncalled for and if anyone condones violence towards another person just because you "got offended," then I'd be shootin' all your motherf*ckers out here with a mini gun.
Was Will Smith slapping Chris Rock at the Oscars over a joke about his wife right or wrong?
What Will Smith did yesterday, you think thats justified? Had there been a woman then?

I'm not complaining about answering, which is why I did. But seriously, like 14 people have asked this question on GAG. The sad part is how many people are sticking up for Cuck Smith, when none of them would want to get slapped by me for all the stupid sh*t they say and do on the daily that I could "justify" just as easily as they are.

I never watch any of those propaganda shows that aim solely at glorifying a few people that have achieved nothing useful in life in terms of gain for the entire humanity rather that in terms of personal enrichment.
I have never been a fan of Hollywood and its decadent actors. But if this guy slaps the other one, then there must have been a good reason unless of course, it is all show because their rating is not as good as they used to be and they must put on a show to attempt to get a few million $ because of their failing career.13 Reply- +1 y

876 opinions shared on Entertainment & Arts topic. It was a pretty dumb joke, and I would actually support Will Smith if he had simply slapped him, sat back down and didn't say another word because the point was made. The problem though is he was clearly laughing at the joke only seconds before, and he started screaming like a spoiled child after returning to his seat. Thanks to his wife and Oprah, it's also public knowledge that his marriage is far from loving and he's enduring constant abuse from his wife-in-name-only. Sure it's "defending his wife's honor" from the traditionalist point of view, except she has none to begin with nor does he seem to ever stand up for himself. In my opinion, this was Will lashing out at his situation and it just happened to be Chris Rock who put himself in the crosshairs, not that he didn't deserve it.
So really it's difficult to agree with either of them.00 ReplyWhether percieved as justified or unjustified, I feel that it's unfortunate that this is what will most will likely be remembered about the 94th Academy Awards. I feel like I've bounced back and forth from being on Will's side and than on Chris. Rather than lashing out in anger I think it would of been better for the two to have had a conversation in private. It's always better to approach things from a calm level headed frame of mind than acting first and than there being consequences to follow.
00 ReplyI think its funny about how the #OscarsSoWhite, and then here comes Will Smith with his black on black crime. Even Jada Pinkett Smith boycotted the awards, for being too white in 2016 when she wasn't nonnominated. How proud she must be of her husbands performance last night.
Only 4 black men have one the award for best actor... and there was only one man in all the 93 years of Oscar's history that committed a crime on stage in front of the world... OH WHY did he have to be Black! ;-/
Not to mention that if any white comedian tried to make fun of a black women on stage he/she would of been stoned to death by "woke" crowd.

+1 yWhile I am definitely not above husbands slapping other men for defending their wives' honor, my only issue with this situation is that Will Smith shouldn't have done it on stage on live television, as people's reactions to the fiasco could result in Will Smith being seen in a negative light. Instead, he should have slapped Chris Rock when the show was over. On the plus side, Will Smith's slap did make the Oscars entertaining and memorable, as I honestly never had an interest in watching the Oscars in the first place. Will Smith already underwent a lot of hell and ridicule because of the "entanglement" that his wife had with another man in the past and clearly reached his breaking point with the jokes. Some people might think my opinion is tasteless, but so was Chris Rock's mouth after that slap. I'm sorry, but the whole thing was just hilarious to me.

He overreacted.
While I don't think it's an offensive joke, but some do - still, overreacted.
I would've got up, go to my wife and kiss her - then ask her: "Can I be on same movie, in-case? I need the money".
You respond to a joke with a better joke. If you can't take it or really really find it personal - say thanks, walk out. Don't assault someone - especially in front of millions.30 Reply
+1 yAs far as I see Will was just defending his wifes honour and dignity as would any gentleman after Chris Rock made Jada the butt of his insensitive joke. Chris Rock should be penalized for his gross lack of judgement. Will should be applauded for standing by his wifes side.
04 Reply- +1 y
Chris's joke wasn't even that bad. Will's reaction was way over the line. Violence is not appropriate just because someone made a joke.
- +1 y
@Imsmurter1 a face slap is hardly violence, making fun of Jada's lost beautiful hair due to a medical condition is definitely way over the line of respect and decency.
- +1 y
A slap on the face IS violence whether you think it’s small or not. He also wasn’t making fun of Jada like I said the joke was super tame. He said “G. I. Jane 2 can’t wait to see it!” Meaning I can’t wait to see you showcase your new bald look in an appropriate spotlight. That’s hardly an insult at all! If anything that’s almost a compliment! It’s just a joke because the otherwise light would have been to deal with it seriously. Jokes don’t always have to be insults sometimes they just make light of an otherwise serious matter.
Chris Rock was making light of something because that’s his job as a comedian it doesn’t deserve a slap plus profanity afterward. Will was way over the line over something that wasn’t even that insulting - +1 y
@Imsmurter1 Believe what you want I still think Chris was out of line and insensitive.
Anonymous(25-29)+1 ywill should’ve just made a comment during his speech no need to be physical but he laughed but saw how sad jada was knowing she has a disease and has to cope with it. and also no comedian should make jokes like that at an award show they should only make jokes like that at their comedy shows where people know their humor well and jokes.

+1 yI haven't seen the whole thing but the way I heard it Kid Rock was out of line and Will Smith pointed out his error by challenging him to a duel. Kid Rock, being no gentleman and a coward to boot, declined.
Nothing to see really but Will probably has to give up on becoming President. Which is a shame because it looks like he could slap some sense into other world leaders.01 Reply- +1 y
Kid Rock? Now that what have been a much more dramatic scene. Just how things would have played out then. A Trump supporter joking about a Hollywood black mans wife.

Anonymous(30-35)+1 yHis acceptance speech later was telling. "I'm being called on to do this, and I'm being called on to do that..." Really? What he did to Chris Rock just a few minutes earlier was completely contrary to everything he said he's being "called on" to do.
He's a typical two-faced liberal piece of Hollywood garbage. He was so full of himself before he did what he did, and now he's fucked up his career.
I have no respect or sympathy for him or any of Hollywood anymore.10 Reply
Anonymous(18-24)+1 yThere were a lot of women and elders attending the event so I thought it was disrespectful for both Chris and Will to make such a scene but mainly Will Smith, he should have handled his business after the show with Chris rock maybe gone on interviews and talked about it maybe even explained why he was so angry instead of causing a scene like a high school teenager with raging hormones. So, it was highly imprudent, disrespectful, no manners and uneducated for both.

Joking about the rape of someone’s sister ≠ joking about someone’s baldness.

- +1 y
@anylolone @agagagagaga exactly i agree with you both. joke about being bald is not a big deal many people lose hair it's not like she got cancer or something

It is a big deal for women since it is one of the things that defines your feminity/womenhood. It is like making fun of men's height/dick size etc
- +1 y
She also got bald due to an illness
- +1 y
Even if I got an illness that made me have boobs or something and someone said “ms doubtfire 2 can’t wait to see it!” That still doesn’t justify I go up and slap them in my opinion. I would not respond to words with physical violence. But I guess violent people won’t see it that way…

@MCheetah Chris Rock got slapped because of his opening monologue in 2016. You can check it out on youtube. I don't think people should say offensive things. There should be consequences for that.
- +1 y
Offense is always taken, never given.
Grown adults are responsible for their actions in life. The people we give a pass to for not being responsible are mature for their actions are children, because children don't know any better.
Society isn't responsible for any grown adult's feelings or how immature they are to react to life, rather than have some composure and independence over their own actions, emotions, and behavior in society.
If you want to live in a society where humor is outlawed, move to China. Or North Korea. - +1 y
Condoning violence against speech is a slippery slope.
- +1 y
@MCheetah yep, everyone's a snowflake, the guys obviously a comedian jus joking lighten the mood.. and something dumb slipped out... Sometimes comedians make mistakes... No need to be all mister simp man "I protect woman" social justice warrior, little William was out of line here
- +1 y
@MCheetah I found nothing funny about that joke. It's like Trump making a joke about grabbing women by their private parts. A society that condones this behavior is going down a slippery slope. Yes we all have the right to speak I'm just saying let's be respectful. What's the need for backhanded jokes and disrespect?
- +1 y
OK. Well, like I said, that's behavior reserved for children. You're allowed to whine about it on Twitter like everyone else. But the moment anyone raises their hand at the wrong person, they're going to get the fear of God struck into them real quick. Cause if a society where "anything goes" is allowed and we can Purge and kill all day long, I don't think the thin-skinned and "offended" are going to so so well with the "let's punch a Nazi and slap the disrespectful" rules of engagement.
- +1 y
It's possible Chris didn't know about her cancer or whatever disease she has (verly likely)
And jus thinks she's choosing to have that ugly haircut... So how can u blame him... Comedians make mistakes sometimes, if Ur take a comedian too serious you shouldn't even be at a comedy gig - +1 y
Seems like your condoning snowflake culture

A comedian tells a joke, and we to be violent to them. THAT is a slippery slope.

@DownIndaDumpz Well all I know that there are rules that we should live by. If someone can be allowed to disrespect you, then you should be allowed to slap them. Like I don't see why you think one is okay and the other is not.
- +1 y
If you're in a work place neither behavior is acceptable. Like you don't do around making jokes about coworkers wives or slap people. But there seems to be no rules in Hollywood.
