I love reading with music I’m literally doing that now 😂😂 I can’t read without music. Most time I love the music really loud because I block people out that way prevents me from falling asleep while reading. I have different genre of music for what I’m reading. Now I’m read Atomic habits book for class so I’m streaming Bruno Mars songs then more relaxing songs. If I was solving mathematics or statistics I’d be listening to Nigerian music because it’s usually loud and active. Even going to the gym I need my MUSIC 😂😂😂
Oh I can't go to the gym WITHOUT my headphones to listen to music!
with lyrics that I like or know? no.
if you are listening to music that I don't like and or don't know, and I am there reading, I can continue reading.. but if you put music I like with lyrics I know I will automatically start singing and cannot read properly after that so I need it off! or leave.
yes... that is how I've done it all the time myself, music can bring me to focus because it will sort of, drown all other thoughts and "noise" around me... and will let me focus on the things I actually want to work on
and... I also put some music on while the children that I tutor are doing their tests, at first they thought it was odd and a bit distracting but now they're quite used to that... lol
Lol yeah. Bidirectional I turned the music on my mind kept wandering.
parts of my mind will keep wandering all over, all the time... but I've gotten used to that, lol
I don't know what bidirectional is but it was supposed to be before lol
I never got that. Reading requires a lot of concentration. I would have to shut everything else out.
Unless you're of the philosophy that music is just some kind of entertainment or background noise. That's not me though.
Music is way more than that. But I have trouble reading when it's super quiet. I need some kind of noise

Well yeah, kind of. I plug the music out of my head while reading, so it's not like I notice the music that much unless I get out of my head for a moment.
But I do prefer to have some background music or one of those tv-shows I've seen a million times.
No, I get way into the music and put the book down. It's like electricity moves through my body when music is playing. I can't help but sing along and dance a little haha
Lol I listen to music that won't make me wanna have a concert lol
Lol that's a good point
Yes, I can! I have playlists that don't distract me (just ones that aren't songs I'll sing along to).
I thought this q was about music reading at first and I was so prepared 😭
Lmao aww sorry
I sometimes like to listen to electronic/R&B and non mainstream music when reading. It feels like I’m opening up a more creative realm and can read/process information better.
Yessss
Yeah, but it depends on the music.
No singing etc.
Has to be instrumental.
And not something that requires too much attention, and not too loud.
Yes, especially during my high school years, it was very common for me to do my homework while listening to music. Nowadays I am able to work while listening to music/radio, but not when reading scientific articles. Probably ASMR would be more suitable.
No. Cannot multitask at that level.
Heck, I cannot even read and listen to the same book at the same time!
Read only here.
I hate audiobooks
Not all the time. When I have trouble focusing, I prefer instrumental music or silence. If in the mood for music, I prefer light music that isn't distracting, preferably playing softly in the background.
I can read, write and listen to music at the same time
I probably write better when music is on lol
Yeah but it can't be music with too many vocals. Ideally instrumental music.
no not wiles reading i can't listen to music because when i read i like to see the picture of the words iam reading in my head to make it feel good and concentrate on it music puts me off reading i can listin to great music and speak on gag but reading book is diffrent if u want to enjoy ure book see parts of the story in ure head and concentrate on the story
Yes except I need to choose what I'm reading and what music I pair to it carefully because they seem to imprint on each other in my mind.
For example, I was reading mein kampf when Linkin parks meteora album came out. Listened to to that album on repeat all the way through the book.
Anyways now when I listen to any song from that album i think of Hitler. It's ridiculous.
And also typing at the same time intoxicated, which is what I'm currently doing! I honestly feel more creativity depending on what I play during reading or writing.
Drunk textingggg
Different people have different styles/methods of learning. Some people prefer a quiet, comfy place while reading and on the other hand some like to listen to music or simply have something play in the background so as to add a lively feel. And I'm one of them.
Yes… IF (& ONLY "IF") there are no lyrics in a language I understand.Otherwise, it has to be instrumental or in a foreign-language.
Nope, I will be jamming to hard to focus on anything, I can barely concentrate when I don't have music and there's sound around me, imagine having a party in my ears while I'm reading
I can do lots of things while listening to music, which is, in many ways, just background noise.
Yes I can but my mom doesn't allows me to study while listening music. She says it will distract me but I can concentrate more deeply with music.
As for me I can multitask & when it comes to reading I can read while listening to music & I can write listening to music as well.
No, I usually need it to be really quiet for me to focus on what I'm reading.
Not only can I read and listen to music at the same time, but I can also write a story and listen to music at the same time! Even music with lyrics or without lyrics! :D I know... I know... impressive... xD lmao
Lol like I told someone else, I write better when I listen to music.
All the Above bake a cake and wash my car all the same time
No, I’m not a multi talker. Probably the only woman who isn’t.
when online i have a few pages going one always music on and loud
To me reading and listening to music is the same as reading and listening to someone talking to me. I can not do it nor can my wife.
Yes. That’s how I study/do Uni work all the time 😂 I can’t do it if I don’t have music on 😅
I prefer to read in silence. I love the peace & quiet.
I can read and have music playing but I am a male (single purpose) and, unlike a female (multiple purpose), I cannot do both at the same time. I can only switch back and forth.
chewing gum and walking is even more difficult to me!
I'm not sure if I can focus on both but I can let it play yes.
Sometimes
Depends on the song and whats happening in the book
No
I can’t concentrate on reading when listening to music
Just one of them can be done
Depends.
It has to be music without words. Anything else, no, I can’t.
Ever watched a teenager study for a test? They have headphones on while they read.
Lmao my mom hates it when I do that 😂. I listen to songs while doing homework/practicing math but not while studying, like reading something lol
Music helps drown out small discordant noises that can disrupt your reading
No either one will be zoned out. That is either music becomes background noise or I will not grasp what I read and have to go back. So I don't listen to stuff when I need to focus.
I found that I retain what I read better if I listen to music as long as there isn't any words. Replaying the music in my head helps me remember what I read while listening to it.
Haven’t tried it yet but music without lyrics might be helpful.
Easy listening Music 🎵 make the best white noise for concentration.
In reading this and typing this at the same time while listening to Mac Miller
Yes, I also think it drowns out the background noises - sort of "evens them out" in a way. Helps me to focus on what I'm reading.
Yes I often read and listen to music at the same time, although when I read I te6bd to listen to classical music.
No, for me that is absolutely impossible. I can't even concentrate when the room I'm in has other people in it, even very quiet ones.
Yes and I can also read backwards and/or upside down letters. I remember more especially if it’s like low or maybe soft classical.
I can't if there are vocals. If it's only instrumental, then maybe. Generally I don't listen to music as I work. Too distracting.
I listen to the music for almost all the tasks I do actually helps me concentrate better cuz my ADHD
Depends. I have a hard time reading in the first place because I can't maintain focus on the page for long.
I actually listen to audio books and work as I have a sensory level that I need really in order to be productive. And I prefer books to music. So I can actually read and listen tka. Book at the same time.
It's been scientifically demonstrated that certain music can create brainwaves which enhance powers of concentration and learning.
I study extremely difficult mathematical/physics stuff and you need high attention, plus a lot of imagination, and calculations on your mind. Silent is the best for that. Not so difficult subjects can be learned with music.
yes, I can do with or without
Haha I tried this today and put the book down
Unfortunately I cannot
as long as it doesn't have lyrics i can
I do almost everything with music
Depends on the type of music
yeah if the music is instrumental
Not everytime, but most of the time, yes!
Way too hard to do that lol.
Depends on what I’m reading and listening to.
