Do you like your "government" photos? Do they turn out how you want then too?

By that I mean for like a passport or  driver license? For me I have always hated my driver license or passport photos but this one I kind of like!

Among my military photographer's duties were documental portrait shoots for ID's & Passports & Promotion Packets.

There's a simple trick to taking great photo,
you NEED to elicit a 'twinkle' in your subject's eyes...
especially for women of ANY age (kids too) and egotistical males.

Once you get the 3-2-1 lighting right, you get them to blink their eyes 3 times rapidly (fatigues the eyelid muscles), for females you want them to lick their lips sloppy wet and have your Subject focus their stare at your hand just at shoulder height to one side. Tell them you'll count to three (use flash to fill) and for females of ANY age, (including kids to feel 'naughty) just as you reach the count of 'one' don't say 'cheese' say 'SEX' ... and as they try to stifle a self-conscious giggle, you snap the shutter!

For self-important egotistical males much the same, and as you count down and they puff themselves up, instead of 'sex' you say 'SHIT!'

Invariably they'll TRY to stifle a close-mouthed sheepish grin and you shoot. Works nearly EVERY time~

In Illinois, when they're taking your driver's license picture, they now make you take your glasses off. Now, if my glasses are oyf, I'm either sleeping, swimming, or showering, and in none of those cases am I *driving*, so what's the damned point? Don't bother asking; DMV employees are what you get when you hire people who WANT to work there, and the Illinois DMV is the single greatest argument for private ownership of nuclear weapons you'll ever encounter.

I was surprised to find Florida completely different; the DMV employees here accually seem human, and when they screw up, they APOLOGIZE. My new license even has be with my glasses ON.

Yours is the only photo I have seen to be really good and presentable.

If you see mine, or even if I see mine, I begin laughing out loud.
It is only the ID that I got somewhat wrong photo, and the engineering entrance details where I look like a guy predatorily looking for women (sort of). The photo editor removed too much of hair strands, hence... it got royally f**ked.

It is my driving license photo which is really better than any of my photos. Really awesome. Really shows me as a school and college boy.

No. In my ID, I actually look wall-eyed, even though I am not actually wall-eyed. It's just THAT bad of a photo.  They say "cheese" AFTER taking the photo, too, so it's pretty much a surprise picture.

My passport photo us several years old and barely looks like me. When coming back to the US, the immigration officer at the airport often looks at me with a strange look, and I mention to him, "Yeah, I know... that doesn't really look like me, does it?" They usually nod and say something like, "That's pretty common" as they hand me back my passport and say "Welcome home".

Lol, that one you took is exceptionally good. Yeah, I find that people look like criminals or just plain terrible in these mugshots- I mean government photos.

My favorite photos of myself are my drivers license photos although they do look like mugshots because they never said when to smile! But it’s a nice feeling knowing that’s what I actually look like

I agree with the government photos looking not like yourself. I spent over 40 years in the government service. This photo does not look too bad for a government photo.
