Cursive writing serves a purpose: it's fast! Writing a note on a piece of paper is much faster than using your phone, especially if you are talking on the phone and need to make note of something. When you do block printing, it is difficult to keep up.
I wouldn't argue cursive has a compelling reason to be retained, even in a disaster scenario where all modern technology becomes unavailable for a long time, regular writing would work well enough.
Still there are many old skills that are indeed very valuable, including math, and history far too few people are learning. A fact that unfortunately means they have been repeating old mistakes at great personal and public cost.
It's been proven that writing out notes is better for memory than to type them out on a digital screen. Cursive, for me, is much faster when I'm writing down notes.
Plus, calligraphy done in cursive style will never be obsolete. People still get professional calligraphy done on invitations for fancy events like weddings.

You're not reading between the lines.
They mean you're losing your culture and identity for something superficial and foreign. You could be writing cursive Russian for all it matters (look it up). But you'll need to learn about the past and understand the language in order to use it. With that you'll learn and understand their times too.
That you don't give a shit about the older generation is one reason there are so many divisions in the US.
For the same reasons I do. I built my kids a go kart. From frigging scratch. Welded the damn tubes myself. And im not even a welder. I ask them if they wanna ride with me, or go fly an airplane with me. I get the same response every time... no dad, its so boring... we want to play video games. And they got their face in a screen all day
New generations miss out on what the past generations consider "living". Hell, and im only 35... damn i feel bad for the future
I can answer this I love poetry and I want to be well remembered when I'm gonna and feel like I lived a purposeful life my mom and aunt both died at 62 so to me those things are very important.
@Wsx2wsx2ws Mom I miss you mutch, It's been 7 years and and the world has changed to the touch. I miss your blonde hair and Swedish blue eyes they were as blue as the day summer nice skies.
Ya is see the 2 images. The icon and the background. The hair and eyes in the background look different. The hair is sunset and the eyes look Swedish blue. <-- new color added to Sherwin William's paint selection and is now most popular

Things are different between generations. Writing and penmanship was an art. It took longer and a lot of thought went into it. It was exciting to get a letter or a note. Now it's a few random letters and that is the jest of most conversations now. It's fine for those that communicate that way, but it seems pretty impersonal to me. It will be interesting to see how things are when you get older how people will communicate with each other.
What happens if the cyber bullies creates the ultimate cyber attack shutting downs all systems. An attack that will take almost a decade to fix. No cell service, no gps, computer are basically worthless, banking system and etc. It’s nice to know something about the basic.
Doing things by hand on material on paper, Calligraphy, woodworking, painting, all kinds of arts and skills are meditative and bring a certain competence and integrity and responsibility with them. It is healing and helps one grow. Doing things by your hand is very natural and healthy.
Also it helps keep a person down to earth and in tune with reality. a lot of the younger generation are too invested in computers and anime and all kinds of virtual things. It can distort the mind about reality. We still live on the same Earth but each living in our own worlds in our minds depending on the cartoons and youtube videos we watch. It's a distortion. I am genuinely worried about future generations. Everyone is losing their connection to the planet. Everything is becoming very inorganic. But we buy organic food lol. As if we invented it. Food was organic for 10000 years. Now they charge you more for something that is easier.
No idea. I'm an older person, and teaching cursive in the 21st century is ridiculous. I was taught cursive. Then I got an electric typewriter. Then I went to a college where we all wrote our papers on a computer. I haven't used cursive ever. When someone advocates for it, I also ask them if we should also be teaching the students how to build a log cabin, make soap from lard and wood ash, and make clothing from a pattern.
You will figure it out for yourself when you get to be my age. See, each generation is supposed to be better than the previous. I’ve noticed lots more people are lazy. I see journalists on the regular have grammar errors. Using verbs incorrectly. There is a reason why you are told to respect your elders. Life experience is something we have and you don’t. The REAL life experiences that happen in person, not online.

They don’t teach it in elementary school anymore anyway but it’s going to be a lost art at some point, it’s more a traditional thing if any , it’s still good to know how old things work, you never know when you’ll need that knowledge, the way things are going we might be in the dark ages if we have a big catastrophe or war

It's useful for historians and scientists working in archeology because if they know how to write it, they'll know how to read it. It also teaches hand eye coordination and gives students a better grasp of the English language because they'll have to learn how to spell without a computer with spellcheck.

"older generations obsession with obsolete skills" Yep. Like truthfulness, virtue, morality, honor, duty, integrity. Fukk all that retro shytte, right? Just do what you feel.
Dude, I was expecting to see people defending cursive which is faster the freaking texting and since it combines the kinetic and the visual whuch is better for your memory. But I guess remembering things is an obsolete skill. Also, there is an element of individuality and humanity to it. My mom still sends letters to her grandkids and they write her back. Me kids also know cursive and GASP texting as well. But I guess human connection across multiple generations is an obsolete skill as well.
I love cursive. I just think it's neat, and am envious of how beautiful and perfect most older people's cursive writing is! I learned it in school, but didn't have to practice it every day like they did, so mine is just okay.
In the 6th grade (around 1978), I was kept after school because the teacher thought I had messy handwriting. Now they don't even teach it. I can't even remember the last time I wrote in cursive. Gotta be at least 20 years, maybe more.
They like blame younger generation for being lazy and for all the problems in the world, yet they forget they the reason the economy is the shitter today. The younger generations have to suffer because of them.

Cursive is fine, but today it's just a hobby.

That’s how I felt about Morse code. There’s something to writing by hand that shows style that typing does not. So yea
I guess we are sad to see the creative destruction we brought forth
I can read and write cursive, it's easier. Plus, it's almost like writing in code

@DermalPunch
I don't like wasting time. Maybe its a White Supremacist thing or something. I like cutting to the chase.
Yes, white racists have the not wanting their time to be wasted market cornered. No one else at all is like that.
Who said anything about truthfulness or honor?
@DermalPunch The more I read your comments the more I love you.

Beautiful calligraphy is a sign that someone values precision and style over haste...
sometimes, the medium IS the message.
I jot or type 'notes' ... but I ELECT to 'sign' meaningful letters or carefully-selected 'occasions' cards.
