Saw the sequel to the 1986 classic "Top Gun" today... "Top Gun Maverick"... excellent movie, better than the original.

Have you seen it yet? What do you think?

I thought it was amazing!! Then again I'm biased because Top Gun has been my favorite movie ever since I was kid. Then the dreaded 12 years of waiting for them to finally announce it was in production. To being pushed back 2 and a half years. I could have died if they delayed it again. I could have there for another hour honestly. Without spoiling the movie - I honestly appreciate the time, dedication and work that went in behind the scenes to make this movie. I'll just leave it at that. 2 Thumbs up from me.

Yes. I’m just not into military films especially since I’m aware of the pro military propaganda pushed in Hollywood by the US military funding the film industry

Not yet, but I will. The first film will be a tough act to follow, not because of the plot- which was silly and contrived, but due to the mazing flight deck scenes of aircraft taking off and landing on a carrier deck.

Back in 1984, no one had ever witnessed such amazing scenes, unless they were an aviation boatswains' mate on a Nimitz Class carrier. Today you can go on YouTube and view flight deck footage taken with GoPro cameras by flight deck personnel. The novelty no longer exists.

I was surprised to actually see a good movie. Rare these days. I read that Cruise worked hard to basically force the studio to not make it “woke” and to avoid naming a real country as the enemy.

I enjoyed it a lot. Probably my favorite movie I've seen in years, and definitely worth the theater trip.

It has some "BS that would never happen" moments like all military movies, but it's very much done in the same spirit of the original, so I overlook it.

I'm not a big Tom cruise fan but... they knocked this out of the park!

I felt like I was in the same room.
Great tribute to Val Kilmer as well.

Yes, and I must admit, it exceeded my expectations. I thought it was just gonna be a generic military film, but I’d say it’s unique enough compared to the others to where I give a firm 9/10. But something even better is gonna happen. JURASSIC WORLD DOMINION AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHO

For a second while watching this movie I felt that old Hollywood magic, it felt like it's from another much better era.

I don't wanna fanboy too much but damn was this the movie we desperately needed

Suspend your common sense in places but, yes, it was a good sequel, set as it was decades after the first movie. Perhaps people our age appreciate it more than the young because it was more reflective than expected and had themes of getting old in it. It also wasn't very gung-ho.
But then my son liked it too.

My best friend told me to go see it. Said it was awesome. I tried to get a group from work to all go but noone wants to see a military movie. So I guess I will go alone.

My thoughts were from the orginial Top Gun. Basically a 24 year old Maverick went "ballistic" with Admiral Benjamin's 15 year old daughter Penny.

Just saw it. I think compared to most movies today it's excellent. Unlike Marvel/Disney that loves to tear down and bash their legacy characters, Tom Cruise was smart enough to say "These people are coming to watch my legacy character... so I'm going to build him up as a better person, not bash him."

I haven't seen it and don't intend to. No doubt like most modern USA movies it is full of propaganda and unrealistic political correctness. I prefer to watch Korean dramas and movies.

Oh boy... you have NO idea what you would be missing.
I too hate modern USA movies but if you want a movie that has 0 social politics or messages or whatever and just gives you 2 hours of cinematic mastery this is the movie for you it's a masterpiece.
