What are your thoughts on OW2 taking over OW1?

A lot depends if they have made changes to the core engine, this could be a lot of under the covers stuff.
Supporting two different cores can be hard and expensive to support.
OW2 will get new players, new advertising etc, it would likely be providing the revenue stream for OW2.
Put it another way, to provide good support for OW2, they have 50 developers and them all to support OW2, if there was a problem on OW1, would you be okay with fixes on OW2 being delayed due to work on OW1?
That’s a very solid point…. I’m still not happy though 😭
@petitedollbabee oh I know, I hear it every day.
There is a point not of diminishing returns and a viable product that is not eating internal time and money.
It becomes even worse if it’s old architecture not optimised for newer hardware, software etc
@petitedollbabee thanks for MHG, most appreciated.
They're looking to build a replacement recurrent revenue stream to make up for WoW winding down.
Honestly I'm probably just not going to play it. Blizzard Activision has joined EA on my nope list after Diablo Immortal, it's just straight another evil exploitative corporation now.
I'm finding myself playing a lot more Indie and small studio games and preferring the more fun focused less money grubbing vibe.

OW2 is only healthy for the game there is no actual argument that could make one think any less if they are informed and understand it. Yourself don't have to play it if you don't want to but I'll be you will and still love it either way you as one person or even if 100 or more of you had the same opinion to quit there will be thousands of more that don't which honestly is the only thing that matters to keep the game running.
Keeping OW1 open would be pointless as that server would die off and lead to a devise in player base.
Then as for BP systems they are quite literally the best thing for a game first they create a easy entry point as they are often cheap, make an incentive to keep playing and make you feel like your progressing and getting cool things on the way. It also removes Rng of lootboxes granted OW has by far the best lootbox system and was pretty damn friendly to users however this is not stable for the actual team working on the game they need a paycheck from somewhere.
Unlike Riot which has Runeterra which Promotes LoL so it don't actually need to make profits back since it will naturally create more for LoL Ow is not promoting another game it is the main game that needs to make profits and while Blizzard has other Ips they are not in the same franchise so it don't work the same. And even Runeterra has Bps and stuff to buy in the game.
It's all cosmetics if you don't like it you don't have to buy it is also the easier argument made.
I am massive fan of OW and have no problems with OW2 honestly the worst thing was why they didn't just start OW like this in the first place they failed a lot back then not realising how games keep getting profits so they can keep updating the game.
Because overwatch 2 without the single person is essentially the same game as overwatch 1 they wouldn't be able to keep a solid player base if they didn't delete 1
That’s true. But why couldn’t they make OW2 a purchasable game like OW1 was, instead of a subscription based game? Is blizzard just that money hungry?
And wtf are we supposed to do with our copies of OW1. They’re worthless now, can’t even sell them since the game is being deleted.
Activision-Blizzard, making an anti-consumer business decision? No! What's next- EA doing something questionable?
After the fiasco of the Diablo 4 announcement, I wouldn't put much faith in them doing right by anything but their wallets.
I don't care about Overwatch, but it's funny how this is half of the plot of the movie "Free Guy." Overwatch is dead, anyway. And I was never a fan, but even I know it's dead.
https://www.youtube.com/embed/-mN3lXVDfMwThey gotta eat, too. Age of high quality games continues to devolve. WoW has done more than any franchise to fight that. They’re also likely have profited from it the most, they had an ENORMOUS userbase.
Best thing to do is drop the addiction if it makes you unhappy. Go outside.
Being disabled means sometimes I’m bedridden and can’t go outside, and I have to find ways to keep myself entertained. I’m allowed to enjoy a video game, and I’m allowed to be sad at the way it’s changing. I simply wanted to know other peoples thoughts on the change, and nowhere in my question did I state anything about an “addiction”. Enjoy your own assumptions though.
Yeah, I can sympathize with that. Have an impairment myself. WoW and other games have been an extremely powerful tool in keeping myself entertained as well. I found sitting outside alone comfortably with my own thoughts helped me. Talking and interacting with people also helped as long as they didn’t make me feel like shit. This is my situation, don’t know your specifics.
If I may be honest, one of the neat elements of WoW for me was helping other users wandering in the open world get better at the game. I didn’t ask their life story, they just were doing something and I wanted to help. It turned out to simultaneously help me forget my boredom. With all the real world obligations and the addictive elements of the game with raiding with other people and whatnot, I could have spent my whole life doing all of it. Were I born into a VR world like the Matrix with tubes going every which way in my body like the Matrix, I very well might well never known anything else. It might not necessarily be a bad thing, either.
I went through only one expansion of WoW went and how many people did a lot of complaining. The game content really is as good as ever if not better. It’s just the human condition. It also really sucks when you get good at a game and they decide to discontinue it.
I’ve only seen footage of Overwatch on Twitch and remember it is a Battle Royale first person shooter game. I gave up fps because it made me dumber. I would tunnel vision and hyperfocus because I’m competitive, and I’m not very good at them, so kind of a nasty feedback loop.
Some adults play video games, some adults watch cartoons. I'm a "cartoons" adult.
This is a move that will change the world as we knew it until now.
WHERE is the sensitivity for conserving true history?
I don’t know what OW is sorry xD
I really don't care, blizzard is dead to me
